The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is a book-style foldable with a 6.5-inch cover screen that works like a normal phone and an 8-inch main screen that opens into a small tablet. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, has a 200MP main camera and weighs 215 g, and it is aimed at people who want a phone and a tablet in one device and are willing to pay flagship money for it.
The short verdict: it is a capable foldable if you want a big screen for reading, video and multitasking, but battery life and charging speed are only average, and it does not support the S Pen. This article is based on Samsung India’s official specifications, GSMArena’s spec sheet and lab-test page, and the Amazon listing title. It is not based on hands-on testing. Specs were last checked on 29 October 2026.
One caution on the variant: the Amazon.in listing title for this link reads only “Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 5G Mobile with Galaxy AI” and does not state the colour, RAM or storage. Samsung India lists several memory and storage combinations, so check the variant shown on the listing before you order.
Quick verdict
- Best for: people who read, work or watch video on their phone and want an 8-inch screen that folds into a 215 g body
- Skip if: you need an S Pen, fast charging, or the longest possible battery life
- Key strengths: 8-inch and 6.5-inch 120Hz screens, Snapdragon 8 Elite, 200MP main camera with a 3x telephoto, IP48 rating per GSMArena

Samsung India does not state the display type, resolution, IP rating or charging speed on its page, so those figures come from GSMArena’s spec sheet. Samsung India’s box list shows a cable and no charger, which is worth keeping in mind when you budget for accessories.
Design and build
The main selling point of the Z Fold7 is how thin it is. Samsung lists 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm unfolded, and GSMArena lists 215 g. For a phone with an 8-inch screen that is a notable result. Closed, it is a tall, narrow phone, and open it is closer to a small tablet.
Samsung says the frame is made of Armor Aluminum that it describes as 10% tougher than the Galaxy Z Fold6 frame, and the cover screen uses Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. GSMArena lists IP48, which covers immersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes but gives only limited protection against dust, since the 4 means only objects larger than 1 mm are kept out. GSMArena also lists a plastic layer over the folding inner screen, so treat it gently: no fingernails, no pens and no pocket full of keys.
Displays
Both screens run at up to 120Hz. The 6.5-inch cover display is a 21:9 panel at 1080 x 2520, which means it is narrow enough to type on with one hand, and the 8-inch main display has a resolution of 1968 x 2184 and a peak brightness of 2600 nits according to Samsung India. GSMArena measured a maximum of 1408 nits on the main screen, so 2600 nits is a short peak for small highlights rather than the figure to expect across a full white screen outdoors.
What the large screen does well is multitasking. You can run two or three apps side by side, read long PDFs and spreadsheets without constant zooming, and watch video at a larger size than any slab phone. Foldable screens have a crease where the panel bends, so look at one in a shop if that bothers you.
Performance
The Z Fold7 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, a 3 nm flagship chip. Samsung’s page compares it with the Galaxy Z Fold6 and states 38% faster CPU performance, 26% better graphics and 41% faster NPU, which are Samsung’s own figures. Storage is UFS 4.0 and RAM is 12GB or 16GB depending on the configuration.
We did not find a throttling or sustained gaming test in the sources we opened, so we cannot say how it behaves under long loads. GSMArena’s lab page notes that gaming and call endurance were longer than the predecessor’s, which it attributes to the new chipset.
Cameras
The rear camera system is a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Samsung India also lists 2x optical-quality zoom from the main camera. On the front there is a 10MP camera on the cover screen and another on the main screen. GSMArena lists video up to 8K at 30fps and 4K at 60fps from the rear cameras.
The advantage of the folding form is that you can use the main cameras for selfies while looking at the cover screen, and you can half-fold the phone to prop it up for hands-free shooting. We did not find published camera comparison results in the pages we opened, so we cannot rate image quality against other flagships. The telephoto has far fewer pixels than the 200MP main sensor, so read independent zoom samples if zoom matters to you.
Battery and charging
The battery is 4400mAh, the same as the Z Fold6 according to GSMArena. In GSMArena’s lab test the phone scored an Active Use Score of 11 hours 44 minutes using the main display and about 12 hours 56 minutes using the cover screen, and the reviewer calls the main-display result slightly below average but an improvement over the predecessor. Web browsing endurance fell because of the larger display, according to the review.
Charging is the weaker area. GSMArena lists 25W wired charging, which needs a USB-PD PPS charger to reach 25W with third-party adapters, and 15W wireless. In its test the phone reached about 28% in 15 minutes and 53% in 30 minutes, and took 1 hour 27 minutes to reach a full charge from empty. The reviewer calls it one of the slowest-charging devices in its category. The page also notes that you can limit charging to 80, 85 or 90 percent to protect the battery.
Software and updates
The phone ships with One UI 8, and GSMArena lists up to 7 major OS updates. Samsung India’s page we read did not state an update policy, so confirm the current commitment on Samsung’s site.
Who should buy it
- People who work on documents, email and spreadsheets on their phone and want a larger canvas
- Heavy readers and video watchers who want a tablet-sized screen without carrying a second device
- Samsung users who want Galaxy AI features and a long-term software promise
- Buyers who want a foldable that is light and thin enough to carry daily
Who should skip it
- Anyone who wants an S Pen, which Samsung India says is not supported
- People who want fast charging, since 25W is slow for the class
- Buyers on a tight budget, as foldables cost far more than slab phones
- Anyone who is hard on phones, as the inner folding screen needs careful handling
Alternatives worth comparing
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: according to Samsung India it has a 5000mAh battery, a 215 g body, a 4.1 mm unfolded thickness, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a 3000-nit peak main screen, with a 50MP ultra-wide camera and IP48 listed.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: Samsung India’s comparison table lists a smaller 5.5-inch cover screen, a 7.6-inch main screen, 201 g weight and a 4800mAh battery with a 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide camera pair. See our Galaxy Z Fold8 review.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6: the Z Fold7 has the same 4400mAh battery according to GSMArena, and Samsung says the Fold7 has a CPU 38% faster and a frame 10% tougher.
Buying tips before you order
- Check the variant: the listing title does not state colour, RAM or storage, so read the product details before ordering. Samsung India lists 12GB or 16GB RAM with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB storage, and not every combination may be on sale.
- Charger: Samsung India’s box list shows a USB-C data cable and no charger, so budget for a 25W PD PPS charger.
- Storage: there is no microSD slot, so pick storage you will not outgrow.
- Warranty and service: check Samsung India’s warranty terms and any screen protection plan, and buy from an authorised seller.
- Cases: foldable cases are model specific, so check that any case lists the Z Fold7.
