Is the Samsung Galaxy M34 5G still worth buying in late 2026? For a patient, budget-minded buyer who wants a bright 120Hz AMOLED screen, a 6000mAh battery and an optically stabilised 50MP camera, it can still make sense, but it is a 2023 phone with only one major Android upgrade left under Samsung’s promise. If long software support or water resistance matter to you, a newer Samsung is the safer pick.

The listing this article covers is the Samsung Galaxy M34 5G with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage in Waterfall Blue, sold without a charger. Samsung launched the M34 in India in July 2023 with Android 13, the Exynos 1280 chip and a promise of up to four generations of OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates.

A quick note on method: this review is based on Samsung’s official launch information and published specification databases and reports, checked on 17 October 2026. It is not a hands-on test, so you will not find made-up benchmark scores or battery hours here.

Quick verdict

  • Best for: students, first-time smartphone buyers and anyone who values battery capacity and a good display over the newest chip
  • Skip if: you keep phones for four or more years, need an IP rating, or play demanding games regularly
  • Key strengths: 6.5-inch Super AMOLED at 120Hz with up to 1000 nits peak brightness, 6000mAh battery, 50MP main camera with OIS, NFC for Samsung Wallet tap-to-pay, microSD expansion
  • Key limitations: ageing Exynos 1280 chip, no charger in the box, only 25W charging, no official dust or water resistance rating, 208 g weight, limited remaining OS upgrades

Software support in 2026: how many updates are left?

This is the most important question for anyone buying a 2023 phone today. The Galaxy M34 5G shipped with Android 13 (One UI 5.1), and Samsung India promised up to four generations of OS upgrades. Counted by Android version, that promise covers Android 14, 15, 16 and 17.

GSMArena lists Android 14 with One UI 6 as an upgrade the phone received, and in October 2025 SamMobile reported that the One UI 8 update based on Android 16 was rolling out to the Galaxy M34 in India (firmware M346BXXU8EYI8). SamMobile also noted the phone is eligible for One UI 8.5, which is still based on Android 16.

Counting from Android 13, reaching Android 16 means three of the four promised generations have been used. So, as of 17 October 2026, one more major Android upgrade (Android 17) remains under the promise. We could not confirm whether that final upgrade has started reaching the M34 yet, so check Settings > Software update after you buy.

Security updates run longer. Samsung promised up to five years of security updates, and counted from the July 2023 launch that window points to roughly mid-2028.

Compare that with a newer phone such as the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G, which launched in 2025 with Android 15 and a promise of up to six major OS updates. If you plan to use one phone for four or five years, that gap matters more than any single spec.

Display: the strongest reason to consider it

The M34 uses a 6.5-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. AMOLED gives deep blacks and strong contrast, which makes videos and dark-mode apps look better than on the LCD screens many phones in this class use. The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling through social feeds and menus feel smoother.

Samsung quotes up to 1000 nits peak brightness and includes its Vision Booster feature, which adjusts colour and contrast in bright light. That helps when reading maps or messages outdoors in strong sunlight. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 covers the front, older protection than the Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the Galaxy M35.

Performance: fine for daily use, dated for heavy gaming

The Exynos 1280 is a 5nm octa-core chip with two Cortex-A78 performance cores at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0GHz, paired with Mali-G68 graphics. It is a reasonable setup for WhatsApp, YouTube, UPI payments, browsing and light games.

By late 2026 standards, though, it is an older mid-range chip. Samsung’s newer models in a similar bracket, such as the Galaxy M35 and the global Galaxy A26, moved to the Exynos 1380. If you play demanding 3D games or keep many heavy apps open, a newer chip will age better.

The variant on this listing has 6GB of physical RAM. The Amazon title mentions “12GB RAM with RAM+”, which refers to Samsung’s RAM Plus feature that sets aside part of the storage as virtual memory. That is not the same as 12GB of real RAM, so do not read it that way. The 128GB storage is UFS 2.2 according to GSMArena, and you can add a microSD card up to 1TB, though the card uses the second SIM position.

Cameras: OIS is the highlight

The rear setup has a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS), which Samsung markets as the “No Shake Camera”. OIS physically steadies the sensor, which helps in low light (where the shutter stays open longer) and makes handheld video less shaky. Many budget phones skip OIS, so this is a genuine advantage.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera (120-degree view) is handy for group photos and tight indoor spaces, though it captures less detail than the main sensor. The 2MP macro is a basic extra. On the front is a 13MP selfie camera.

Software extras include Nightography low-light modes, Fun Mode lens effects and Monster Shot 2.0. Rear video recording goes up to 4K at 30fps.

Battery and charging

A 6000mAh battery is larger than the 5000mAh cells common in this segment. Samsung claimed up to two days of battery life at launch. Real-world results depend on brightness, 5G signal and usage, so treat that as a claim, not a guarantee.

Charging is rated at 25W wired, and the observed Amazon listing clearly says without charger. If you do not already own a compatible USB-C PD charger, budget for one. With a battery this large, 25W charging will take noticeably longer to fill than phones that support faster charging.

Design and everyday features

At 8.8 mm thick and 208 g according to GSMArena, the M34 is on the heavier side, the trade-off for that big battery. Unlike the Galaxy A34, it has no IP67 rating, as SamMobile pointed out at launch, so keep it away from water.

Useful extras include NFC with Samsung Wallet Tap and Pay for card payments, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, Dolby Atmos audio, Voice Focus for reducing background noise on calls, and Samsung Knox security.

Who should buy it and who should skip it

Who should buy the Galaxy M34 5G
Who the Galaxy M34 5G suits, summarised from this review.

Buy the Galaxy M34 5G if

  • You want an AMOLED 120Hz display and a large battery on a tight budget
  • You value OIS on the main camera for night photos and steadier video
  • You want NFC tap-to-pay and microSD expansion
  • You are fine with about one more major Android upgrade and security patches until around 2028

Skip it if

  • You plan to keep your phone for four or more years and want long OS support
  • You need dust and water resistance
  • You play heavy 3D games and want a newer chipset
  • You want fast charging and a charger in the box

Alternatives worth comparing

Samsung Galaxy M35 5G: The M34’s successor, announced in May 2024 with Android 14. GSMArena lists the Exynos 1380 chip, a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED 120Hz display with Gorilla Glass Victus+, a 6000mAh battery with 25W charging, a 50MP main camera with OIS, and an upgrade path that already reaches Android 16 (One UI 8). It is the most direct step up if you want the same battery size with a newer chip.

Samsung Galaxy A26 5G: Launched in 2025 with Android 15 and up to six major OS updates. GSMArena lists a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED 120Hz screen, IP67 dust and water resistance, a 5000mAh battery with 25W charging, and the Exynos 1380 in its global version. Choose it if software longevity and water resistance matter more than the extra 1000mAh.

What to check before you order

Galaxy M34 5G buying checklist
What to check before you buy the Galaxy M34 5G.
  • Confirm the variant: this link is for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model in Waterfall Blue. Amazon sometimes shows a default colour or storage option, so check the selected variant before paying.
  • Charger: the box does not include a charger. Use a 25W-capable USB-C PD charger for the rated charging speed.
  • Seller and warranty: buy from a seller that provides a Samsung India manufacturer warranty, and keep the invoice for service centre visits.
  • Software status: after setup, run Settings > Software update to install the latest One UI build and security patch.
  • Storage plan: if you will use a microSD card, remember it takes the second SIM slot position.

Frequently asked questions

How many Android updates does the Galaxy M34 5G have left in 2026?

It launched with Android 13 and Samsung promised up to four OS generations. Since it has received Android 16 (One UI 8), one more major upgrade, Android 17, remains under that promise as of October 2026.

Does the Galaxy M34 5G come with a charger?

No. The observed Amazon listing says “Without Charger”. The phone supports 25W wired charging, so a compatible USB-C PD charger is recommended.

Is the Galaxy M34 5G 12GB RAM?

No. This variant has 6GB of physical RAM. The “12GB” figure in the Amazon title includes RAM Plus, which uses part of the storage as virtual memory.

Is the Galaxy M34 5G waterproof?

It has no official IP rating, so it is not certified for dust or water resistance. The Galaxy A26 5G is an option if you need IP67 protection.

Does the Galaxy M34 5G support NFC payments?

Yes. Samsung highlights Samsung Wallet with Tap and Pay, which uses NFC to make card payments from the phone.

Final thoughts

The Samsung Galaxy M34 5G still has real strengths for a budget buyer: a bright 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, a 6000mAh battery, a stabilised 50MP main camera and NFC. Its weak points are age-related: an older chip, one remaining OS upgrade, no IP rating and no charger in the box. If you want a dependable everyday phone for the next two to three years and the price on the day is right, it is a sensible choice. If you want a phone for the long haul, look at the Galaxy A26 5G or Galaxy M35 5G instead.
