Is the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G worth buying in India? For budget-to-midrange buyers who want long software support, IP67 water resistance and a dependable Samsung experience, yes, mainly because Samsung promises six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates for it. If you want the brightest screen, fast charging, stereo speakers or strong gaming performance, rivals do better.

The Galaxy A26 5G launched in India on 24 March 2025 with a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED display, Samsung’s Exynos 1380 chip, a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 5,000mAh battery and Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back. This guide covers the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model sold on Amazon.in in Awesome Black, with a note on the identical-spec Awesome Mint listing.

How this review was put together: it is based on Samsung’s official India specifications and launch release (checked on 17 October 2026) and on published reviews from GSMArena, Smartprix and others, named wherever their findings are used. Gadget Soch has not tested this phone hands-on.

Quick verdict

  • Best for: people who keep a phone for four years or more, students and family users who want a reliable Samsung, and anyone who wants microSD expansion.
  • Skip if: you play demanding games on high settings, shoot handheld 4K video, want fast charging or care about speaker quality.
  • Key strengths: six OS upgrades and six years of security updates, IP67, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both sides, 120Hz AMOLED, OIS on the main camera, well-reviewed selfie camera.
  • Key limitations: single loudspeaker, 25W charging with no charger in the box, weak outdoor brightness in GSMArena’s test, no 4K video stabilisation, average speed.

Design and durability: tougher than most budget phones

Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and the back is still uncommon at this level, and it helps if you drop your phone or pocket it with keys. GSMArena notes the frame is plastic. The IP67 rating covers immersion in up to 1 metre of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, which handles rain and spills. Samsung advises against beach or pool use and says resistance can decline over time. At 7.7mm thick and 200 g, the A26 is slim for a 6.7-inch phone, though not light.

Display: smooth and colourful, but not very bright

The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel runs at up to 120Hz in FHD+ resolution, which means deep blacks, rich colours and smoother scrolling than a 60Hz screen. Smartprix notes Widevine L1 support for HD streaming.

Brightness is the catch. GSMArena measured 365 nits in manual mode and 777 nits in auto mode, and felt this was not enough for comfortable use on a bright sunny day. Smartprix also found sunlight readability took some effort and listed the waterdrop notch as a drawback. If you spend a lot of time outdoors in Indian summers, keep this in mind.

Performance: fine for daily use, average for gaming

The 5nm Exynos 1380 has four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. GSMArena called everyday smoothness “okay” and felt navigation could be more responsive. Smartprix found daily tasks smooth with minor delays when switching between several apps, and said BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile run well on medium settings but drop frames on high. It also notes UFS 2.2 storage, slower than the UFS 3.1 on some rivals. For WhatsApp, UPI apps, YouTube and social media, the A26 should cope. Heavy gamers should look elsewhere.

Cameras: steady main camera, excellent selfies

The 50MP main camera has OIS, which helps reduce blur in dim light. According to GSMArena, daylight shots have accurate colours but are not outstanding, and low-light photos are soft and noisy even in Night mode. The 8MP ultra-wide is acceptable in daylight but grainy at night, and both GSMArena and Smartprix rate the 2MP macro as weak.

The 13MP selfie camera is the highlight. GSMArena called the selfies excellent and said the A26 punches above its class here, and Smartprix praised the natural skin tones. For video, both reviews report that stabilisation works only at 1080p, so handheld 4K footage looks shaky.

Battery and charging: a day of use, slow top-ups

Samsung quotes up to 17 hours of video playback from a lab test. GSMArena measured an Active Use Score of 10 hours 44 minutes and called battery life underwhelming, while Smartprix reported around six hours of screen-on time and a full day of normal use.

Charging is capped at 25W. In GSMArena’s test, the phone reached 51% in 30 minutes and full in 1 hour 26 minutes, and Smartprix measured about 1.5 hours. Neither found a charger in the box. Smartprix notes a battery protection option that caps charging at 80% or 90%, useful if you plan to keep the phone for years.

Software updates: the Galaxy A26 5G’s biggest selling point

Samsung’s official India product page states that the Galaxy A26 5G gets six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, counted from its global launch, and lists the security update period as valid until 31 March 2031. Samsung adds that timing may vary by model and market. The phone launched with Android 15 and One UI 7, which Samsung’s India launch release called a first for the Galaxy A series.

In practice, the A26 should keep getting security patches well into the next decade, which matters for banking and UPI apps and helps resale value. GSMArena’s reviewer did question whether budget hardware will stay smooth through that many major updates, so the promise protects security more than it guarantees speed in year five.

The India launch release lists AI features including Circle to Search with Google, AI Select, Object Eraser and My Filters. GSMArena said most of Samsung’s flagship AI features are unavailable on this hardware, and Smartprix described the AI tools as limited. Samsung Knox Vault adds hardware-backed protection for sensitive data.

Audio and connectivity

GSMArena confirmed a single bottom-firing loudspeaker, rating it loud enough but tinny with almost no bass. There is no 3.5mm jack. Samsung’s official 5G band list includes n78 and n28. NFC is not listed on Samsung India’s spec sheet, so confirm it on the Amazon.in listing if you need tap-to-pay.

Who should buy it and who should skip it

Who should buy the Galaxy A26 5G
Who the Galaxy A26 5G suits, summarised from this review.

Buy it if you want a phone that stays secure for years, value water resistance and toughened glass, take lots of selfies, or are buying a simple, familiar phone for a parent or student.

Skip it if you game heavily, need fast charging, use your phone in harsh sunlight, care about speaker sound or shoot handheld 4K video. Also note that Samsung launched the newer Galaxy A27 5G in India in July 2026, so compare the two first.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • Samsung Galaxy A27 5G: the A26’s successor. Samsung lists a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, UFS 3.1 storage, a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED with a punch-hole camera, a 50MP OIS main camera and the same six OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
  • Samsung Galaxy A36 5G: per GSMArena’s spec sheet, it has a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, stereo speakers, 45W charging, IP67 and up to six major OS updates.
  • Motorola Edge 50 Fusion: GSMArena’s A26 review named it a better all-rounder. It has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, a 144Hz P-OLED screen, stereo speakers, 68W charging and IP68, but up to three major OS updates.
  • Poco X7 Pro: GSMArena said it beats the A26 in most areas. It uses a Dimensity 8400 Ultra, has stereo speakers and 90W charging, and the India model has a 6,550mAh battery. Check its update policy before buying.

Buying tips: what to check before you order

  • Confirm the variant: the main link here is for the 8GB + 128GB model in Awesome Black. Samsung India also sells 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB versions, so check the listing title.
  • Plan for a charger: for full 25W speed, use a USB-C PD charger that supports PPS.
  • Check the seller and warranty: note the seller, confirm a GST invoice is provided and read the warranty terms on the listing.
  • Mind the hybrid slot: you cannot use two SIMs and a microSD card together.

Frequently asked questions

It suits casual and moderate gaming. Smartprix saw BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile run well on medium settings but drop frames on high.

Is the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G waterproof?

It is water resistant, not waterproof. IP67 covers up to 1 metre of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, and Samsung advises against beach or pool use.

Should I buy the Galaxy A26 5G or the Galaxy A27 5G?

The A27 5G moves to a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 with UFS 3.1 storage and keeps the six-year promise, so it is the newer option. The A26 still makes sense if it costs noticeably less, since its security support runs to 2031.

Final verdict

The Samsung Galaxy A26 5G is not the fastest, brightest or best-sounding phone in its class, and reviews are clear about its slow charging, mono speaker and average low-light camera. What it does offer is durability, a smooth 120Hz AMOLED screen, very good selfies and one of the longest official update promises in the budget segment. If you keep phones for years, it remains a reasonable choice.
