The POCO C71 is an entry-level 4G Android phone that gets three things right for its class: a large 6.88-inch 120Hz display, a 5,200mAh battery and a promise of two Android upgrades with four years of security patches. Its weak spots are equally clear: slow 15W charging, ordinary cameras, a mono speaker and no 5G. If you need a dependable, simple phone for calls, WhatsApp, YouTube and UPI payments, it makes sense. If you want 5G or better photos, look one step up.

This article covers the variant sold through our Amazon.in link: the POCO C71 in Power Black with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. POCO also sells a 6GB/128GB version and other colours, so confirm the exact configuration on the listing before you order.

How this article was prepared: it is based on POCO’s announced specifications (as reported in launch coverage), spec databases and published reviews, checked on 17 October 2026. We have not tested the phone hands-on. Wherever real-world results are mentioned, the publication that measured them is named.

Where the POCO C71 sits in the market

POCO launched the C71 in India on 4 April 2025, with sales starting on 8 April through Flipkart. It is the follow-up to the POCO C61, which used a MediaTek Helio G36 chip, a 6.71-inch 90Hz screen and a 5,000mAh battery. The C71 moves to a faster Unisoc T7250 processor, a larger and smoother 120Hz panel, and a slightly bigger battery, while keeping the same basic idea: a large, easy-to-use phone at the very bottom of POCO’s range.

Design and build

The POCO C71 measures 171.8 x 77.8 x 8.26 mm and weighs 193 g, which is reasonable for a phone with a 6.88-inch screen and a 5,200mAh cell. In its review, 91mobiles described the dual-tone back with a ridged pattern and a large raised camera island, said the finish resists smudges, and found the phone light in the hand.

Two practical details stand out. First, the IP52 rating means protection against dust and light splashes, such as rain or a spilled glass of water, but not submersion. Second, the fingerprint sensor sits in the power button on the side, which 91mobiles said “works quite well”. One odd choice the same review flagged is the top-firing speaker, which is not where most people expect sound to come from.

Display: big and smooth, but only HD+

The 6.88-inch IPS LCD is the headline feature. Its 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling through Instagram, menus and web pages look smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen, and the 240Hz touch sampling rate helps taps register quickly. Launch coverage also mentions TÜV Rheinland eye-protection certification and wet-touch support, which lets the screen respond when your fingers are slightly damp.

The trade-off is resolution. At 1640 x 720 pixels, the screen works out to about 260 pixels per inch, so text and fine detail look softer than on a Full HD panel. Brightness is rated at 600 nits peak (GSMArena lists 450 nits typical). 91mobiles found the screen fine indoors but harder to read in direct sunlight, and said it looked washed out next to the itel A80.

Performance and software

The Unisoc T7250 is an octa-core chip built on a 12nm process, with two Cortex-A75 cores at 1.8GHz for heavier tasks and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.6GHz for light work, paired with Mali-G57 MP1 graphics. On this variant it works with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.

In 91mobiles’ benchmark runs, the POCO C71 scored 265,154 in AnTuTu and 440 single-core and 1,481 multi-core in Geekbench, all well ahead of the itel A80 they compared it against. The same review described everyday use as fluid, with light multitasking handled comfortably, and said BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile are playable at low settings. However, its sustained performance test scored 45.7% against 65.5% for the itel A80, which means performance drops more under long, heavy loads. Notebookcheck’s description of the Mali-G57 MP1 is blunt: only undemanding 3D games are realistic.

In plain terms, it handles WhatsApp, YouTube, UPI apps and Maps comfortably, but 4GB of RAM means apps will reload more often if you switch between many of them.

The phone runs Android 15. POCO promises two major Android upgrades and four years of security updates, which is a strong commitment for this segment and the main reason the C71 can be a sensible long-term purchase. 91mobiles noted that its review unit ran the lighter Android 15 (Go edition) software with relatively few pre-installed apps, which also means some newer Android features are not included. If the software build matters to you, check the details on the listing or with the seller.

Cameras: fine for daylight, weak at night

On the back is a 32MP main camera with an f/1.75 aperture, according to POCO’s launch details, plus a secondary sensor that POCO has not described in detail. The front camera is 8MP with an f/2.0 aperture. Both can record video at up to 1080p and 30fps.

91mobiles found daylight photos well exposed with punchy colour, but softer and less detailed than the itel A80’s. Low-light shots were softer still, and portrait edge detection struggled. Selfies were the pleasant surprise: the review called them “surprisingly reliable” and more natural-looking than the rival’s. Treat them as fine for social posts and video calls, not for photos you plan to print.

Battery life and charging

The 5,200mAh battery is one of the phone’s strengths. In 91mobiles’ PCMark battery test the POCO C71 lasted 13.7 hours, and in their real-world session two hours of heavy use consumed 23% of the charge, which the reviewer called slightly better than the segment average. For most light-to-moderate users, that points to a full day of use with some charge left.

Charging is the weak link. The phone supports only 15W wired charging over USB Type-C. 91mobiles reported a charger in the box and measured about 120 minutes to charge from 20% to 100%, and listed slow charging as one of its main criticisms.

Audio and connectivity

There is a single loudspeaker. 91mobiles called it “serviceable” and found most rivals louder in its lab test. The good news is the 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio, both useful for budget buyers who already own wired earphones.

Connectivity covers dual-SIM 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS and USB Type-C. There is no 5G and no NFC. The dedicated microSD slot lets you add storage without giving up the second SIM; launch coverage from GSMArena and FoneArena cites support for cards of up to 2TB, while 91mobiles lists 1TB, so check the listing if you plan to use a very large card.

Who should buy the POCO C71, and who should skip it

Who should buy the POCO C71
Who the POCO C71 suits, summarised from this review.

Buy it if you want a large, smooth screen for videos and reading, battery life that comfortably lasts a day, long security support, and practical extras like a headphone jack, FM radio and a separate memory-card slot. It is a good fit for an elderly parent, a student’s first phone, or a dedicated phone for calls and banking apps.

Skip it if you live in an area with strong 5G coverage and want to use it, you play games regularly, you care about low-light photos, or you hate waiting two hours for a full charge. Heavy multitaskers should also look at a 6GB or 8GB phone rather than this 4GB model.

Alternatives worth comparing

  • POCO C71 6GB/128GB: the same phone with more RAM and double the storage, worth considering if you keep many apps or photos
  • POCO M7 5G: adds 5G and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, with a 6.88-inch 120Hz display, 5,160mAh battery, 18W charging and a 50MP main camera
  • itel A80: the rival 91mobiles tested against the C71, with better daylight and low-light photos in their comparison, but a 5,000mAh battery, 10W charging and weaker benchmark scores
  • POCO C61: the older model with a Helio G36 chip, 6.71-inch 90Hz screen and 5,000mAh battery, only worth it if the C71 is unavailable

If your budget can stretch to a completely different tier with 5G and much stronger performance, our POCO X6 Pro review shows what POCO offers higher up its range.

Final thoughts

The POCO C71 is an honest entry-level phone. Its large 120Hz screen, long-lasting 5,200mAh battery, practical extras and long security support make it a sensible choice for basic everyday use. Slow charging, average cameras and the lack of 5G are the compromises you accept in return. If those trade-offs suit you, the 4GB/64GB model covers the essentials.
