The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is the highest-spec of the Galaxy A27, A37 and A57 line-up and a strong choice if you want a slim, IP68-rated phone with a bright 6.7-inch AMOLED screen, 45W charging and six years of updates. Its main weaknesses are everyday performance that one reviewer called average for the price, a glossy back that attracts fingerprints and no charger in the box.

This article covers the Awesome Icyblue, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage version named in the Amazon.in listing we link to. Samsung also lists a 12GB/256GB model, so check the memory on the page before ordering.

An important note: this is not a hands-on review. It is based on Samsung India’s product page, specification data from 91mobiles, launch coverage from Smartprix and Smartprix’s published A57 review, all checked on 29 October 2026. Where we quote real-world impressions such as battery life or camera quality, they belong to Smartprix, not to us.

Design and build

The A57 is 6.9 mm thick and weighs 179 g, which makes it noticeably slimmer and lighter than the Galaxy A37 at 7.4 mm and 196 g, and the Galaxy A27 at 7.7 mm and 200 g, per the 91mobiles listings. Samsung describes an aluminium frame with a glossy finish. The phone is rated IP68, which 91mobiles lists as protection for up to 30 minutes at 1.5 metres.

Smartprix’s review notes that the IP68 rating is an upgrade over the A56’s IP67, and also that the glossy back collects fingerprints and can feel slippery without a case. Those are fair trade-offs for a slim phone, and a cover would solve most of it.

Display

The screen is a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED+ panel with 120Hz refresh. 91mobiles lists a peak brightness of 1,900 nits, 1,200 nits in high-brightness mode and HDR10+ support. Smartprix’s reviewer says peak brightness is up to 2,000 nits and that outdoor visibility is not an issue, though the display can dim after a few minutes in very strong sunlight. The two sources round the brightness differently, so we would treat it as approximately 1,900 to 2,000 nits at peak.

Smartprix also lists the drawbacks: no Dolby Vision, slightly uneven bezels and 480Hz PWM dimming that some people may notice at low brightness. PWM is a way of controlling brightness by flickering the screen quickly. If you are sensitive to flicker, a low rate can matter, so this is worth knowing.

Performance

The Exynos 1680 is a 4nm octa-core processor, with clock speeds of 2.9GHz, 2.6GHz and 1.95GHz across its core groups and an Xclipse 550 graphics unit, according to 91mobiles. Smartprix’s review calls performance “average for the price”, saying it handles daily tasks, multitasking and light gaming but can feel slow under heavier workloads. The review gives no benchmark figures, and neither do we.

In practical terms, that means the A57 is not the best choice for heavy gamers or those who push multitasking. The plus side is storage: 256GB UFS 3.1 is the starting point, and 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X memory is available. There is no microSD slot, so choose the memory with that in mind.

Cameras

The rear camera consists of a 50MP main sensor with OIS and an f/1.8 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide at f/2.2 and a 5MP macro at f/2.4, per Smartprix’s launch article. The front camera is 12MP. Video goes to 4K at 30fps on both the rear and front cameras, according to 91mobiles.

Smartprix’s review praises daylight photos from the main camera for sharpness, natural colours and good dynamic range, and says portrait edges are cleanly handled. It says low-light performance is average, with noise, softer detail and occasional lens flares, that the ultra-wide shows some edge distortion and that the 5MP macro has limited real-world use. That is a fair description of a mid-range camera: very good in good light, weaker at night. We have not tested the camera ourselves.

Battery and charging

The A57 has a 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging, with Samsung saying up to 60% in 30 minutes. Smartprix’s launch article states that its vapor chamber is 13% larger than the A37’s, which may help sustain performance and manage heat.

According to the Smartprix review, the battery delivers around 6.5 to 7 hours of screen-on time with mixed use, which the reviewer calls decent but not the best in the segment, noting that phones with 6,200mAh to 9,000mAh batteries tend to last longer. The reviewer found the 45W charging consistent and reliable, and notes that faster charging exists at this price. The review also lists no charger in the box and no wireless charging as cons. Those are one reviewer’s results, and your own use may differ.

Software and updates

The A57 ships with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, with up to six generations of Android and six years of security updates, per Smartprix and 91mobiles. Samsung’s page mentions Circle to Search, Object Eraser, Best Face, Photo Remaster and Call Caption. Smartprix adds Auto Trim for video editing and the Gemini and Bixby assistants.

Smartprix describes the software as polished and feature-rich, but complains about preinstalled apps: Unity and AppCloud add four app stores, ads appear in some Samsung apps, and the setup offers no proper way to skip or disable them. That is worth knowing before you buy. You can usually disable or clean up apps after setup, but it takes time.

Who should buy it

  • People who want a thin, light, IP68 phone from a mainstream brand
  • Buyers who watch a lot of video and want a bright AMOLED panel
  • Users who keep phones for years and want long update support
  • Those who prefer a phone that starts at 256GB without paying for an upgrade

Who should skip it

  • Gamers and heavy multitaskers, given the reviewer’s comment on average performance
  • People who want a microSD slot or wireless charging
  • Anyone who dislikes bloatware or ads in system apps
  • Buyers sensitive to PWM flicker
  • Anyone who expects a charger in the box
