The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G is a good upper-mid-range pick if you want an IP68-rated phone with a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, 45W charging and six years of software updates. It is a better all-rounder than the cheaper Galaxy A27 5G, though not a performance phone, and it has no microSD slot or headphone jack.

This article looks at the Awesome Charcoal, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage version named in the Amazon.in listing we link to. Samsung also lists 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB versions, so check the exact memory on the page before you order.

Please note: this is not a hands-on review. It is based on Samsung India’s product page and on specification listings and launch coverage from 91mobiles and Smartprix, all checked on 29 October 2026. We have not tested the phone and we do not publish test results of our own for it.

Quick verdict

  • Best for: buyers who want water resistance, fast-ish charging and long update support in a mainstream mid-range Samsung
  • Skip if: you want a microSD slot, a 3.5mm jack or the strongest gaming performance in this price band
  • Key strengths: 6.7-inch Super AMOLED at 120Hz, 1900-nit peak brightness as listed, IP68, 45W charging, OIS on the main camera, 6 years of OS and security updates
  • Key limitations: no charger in the box per Samsung’s page, no expandable storage, 5MP macro camera of limited use, an Exynos chip that is mid-range rather than fast

See the Galaxy A37 5G (Awesome Charcoal, 8GB/128GB) on Amazon.in and match the memory shown on the page with the table above.

Design, build and durability

The A37 is 7.4 mm thick and weighs 196 g, according to 91mobiles. That is a little thinner and lighter than the Galaxy A27 5G, which is listed at 7.7 mm and 200 g. Samsung’s page describes an aluminium frame with a glossy finish and a translucent housing around the cameras that it calls the Ambient Island. 91mobiles lists Gorilla Glass Victus+ for the back.

The most useful durability detail is the IP68 rating. IP68 means dust-tight and protected against immersion in water, which 91mobiles lists as up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 metres. In daily life, that gives peace of mind against rain, a dropped phone in a bucket or a spill. Treat it as a safety margin rather than a reason to swim with the phone, and check the warranty terms on liquid damage.

One caution about colours. The Amazon listing title uses Awesome Charcoal. Samsung India’s page lists three colours, and listings sometimes show different names, so match the colour name on the page with what you want.

Display

The A37 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with up to 120Hz refresh. 91mobiles gives a 1080 x 2340 resolution, 385 pixels per inch and a peak brightness of 1,900 nits, with 1,200 nits in high-brightness mode. Smartprix mentions Vision Booster support, which is Samsung’s software for improving visibility in bright light.

Peak brightness figures only count in short bursts, such as when you view a small bright highlight, and a sustained brightness number is usually lower. Even so, an AMOLED panel at this level should be comfortable outdoors. We have no measured brightness or colour accuracy data, so we do not make claims about how good the screen really looks.

Performance

The Exynos 1480 is a 4nm octa-core chip with four Cortex-A78 cores at up to 2.75GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at up to 2GHz, and it uses an AMD Xclipse 530 graphics unit, per 91mobiles. It is built for smooth daily use, with multitasking, social apps, streaming and moderate gaming. With 8GB of LPDDR5X memory and UFS 3.1 storage in this variant, app switching and file transfers should feel responsive. We have no independent benchmark or gaming test, so we cannot rank it against other chips.

Storage is the point to think about. The 128GB model has no microSD slot, as 91mobiles lists storage as not expandable. If you shoot a lot of 4K video or download offline media, consider the 256GB variants. Note that Samsung’s page contains a conflicting statement about “up to 8GB” RAM while also listing a 12GB option, so look at the memory shown on the product page you buy from.

Cameras

The rear setup is a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro, with a 12MP front camera, per Samsung and 91mobiles. OIS means the lens physically counters hand shake, which usually helps with low-light stills and video. Video goes up to 4K at 30fps, and digital zoom is listed up to 10x. Digital zoom is cropping, so quality drops as you zoom in.

Samsung’s page promotes Nightography, Super HDR and Object Eraser. Those are software processing features, and what matters is the result. We have no independent camera test to quote, so please read samples from a trusted reviewer before buying if camera quality is your main criterion. As on most phones at this level, the 5MP macro sensor is a bonus rather than a reason to buy.

Battery and charging

The battery is 5,000mAh and charging is 45W. Samsung says it reaches up to 60% in 30 minutes, and Smartprix repeats that figure. That is a clear step up from 25W charging on the Galaxy A27 5G, as listed by 91mobiles.

The Amazon listing title advertises “2 Days Battery Life”. That is a marketing claim from the listing. We did not find an independent battery test for the A37, so we cannot confirm it. Real battery life depends on screen time, 5G signal strength and brightness.

Samsung’s page states that a USB-C cable is in the box and a charger is not. To get the full 45W, you need a compatible charger. Check that you have one, or add one to your order.

Software and updates

The phone runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5. 91mobiles lists 6 years of OS updates and 6 years of security updates, and Smartprix says up to 6 generations of Android and One UI updates. For a phone in this class that is a major advantage, as it keeps the phone secure and feature-rich for longer.

Samsung’s features include Circle to Search, Object Eraser, Best Face, voice transcription in Voice Recorder and Galaxy AI features, plus Gemini integration. Smartprix notes that Samsung calls the package “Awesome Intelligence”. Smartprix, reviewing the Galaxy A57 on the same One UI 8.5, complained about preinstalled apps and ads on the Galaxy A57 running the same One UI 8.5, so expect some setup clean-up.

Who should buy it

  • People who want IP68 and long software support without moving up to a flagship
  • Users who charge during the day and value 45W speed
  • Buyers who want stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0 on a mid-range phone
  • Anyone who wants a bright AMOLED screen for video and reading

Who should skip it

  • Users who rely on microSD storage
  • People who still use wired headphones, since 91mobiles lists no 3.5mm jack
  • Gamers who want the strongest chip, who should compare benchmark data first
  • Anyone who wants a charger in the box
  • Buyers who find a side-mounted fingerprint reader more convenient than an in-screen one

Alternatives worth comparing

Samsung Galaxy A27 5G. The cheaper sibling uses a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, 25W charging, IP64 and a side fingerprint reader, and 91mobiles lists microSD support up to 2TB. Choose it if storage expansion matters more than IP68 and faster charging.

Samsung Galaxy A57 5G. Smartprix lists the A57 with the Exynos 1680, a Super AMOLED+ display, 45W charging, IP68, and a thinner 6.9 mm, 179 g body, with 256GB as the starting storage. It is the step up if build and chip matter.

Samsung Galaxy A56 5G. The previous-generation A56 is IP67 rated, per Smartprix’s A57 review. It may be worth a look if stock is available, but check its remaining update period first.

Buying tips before you order

  • Check the variant: the link goes to Awesome Charcoal, 8GB/128GB. The 256GB and 12GB models are separate
  • Check the box: Samsung’s page says no charger, so plan for one
  • Check warranty and invoice: Samsung’s page only links to its warranty policy without stating a period, so confirm terms on the listing and keep the invoice
  • Check the seller: buy from Amazon or a Samsung-authorised seller
  • Check the price: offers change often, so look at the current price on the page
