The Nothing Phone (3a) is a mid-range 5G phone with a 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, a 50MP main camera with optical stabilisation, a 2x telephoto lens and a 5,000mAh battery. This article is about the White 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage version sold on Amazon.in.
Our short verdict: it is one of the more distinctive phones in its price tier, with a bright screen, a versatile camera set, stereo speakers and a light-up back panel, but it comes with a plastic body, only IP64 protection and charging that falls short of its rating in published tests. If you care more about looks, display and cameras than raw speed, it is worth a look. If you want the longest battery life or the fastest charging, check the alternatives below.
How this article was written: it is based on Nothing’s official India product page, published spec sheets and published reviews, checked on 29 October 2026. It is not based on hands-on testing. Wherever a measured result is mentioned, the publication that produced it is named.

The variant this link points to
The Amazon listing is titled “Nothing Phone (3a) 5G (8GB RAM + 128GB Storage) (White)”. That is the entry-level storage option in white. The Indian page also lists an 8GB + 256GB model and two other colours, and GSMArena’s spec sheet mentions a 12GB + 256GB option that Nothing’s India page does not list. Those are different variants and not the same listing, so check the RAM, storage and colour on the Amazon page before you order.
Design and build
GSMArena lists a 163.5 x 77.5 x 8.4 mm body weighing 201 g, described as a plastic body with a glass front and back. The IP64 rating means the phone is dust-tight and resists water splashes from any direction, which is enough for rain or wet hands but not for dunking. By comparison, GSMArena lists IP68 for the pricier Nothing Phone (3), so treat this phone with a little more care around water.
The rear has three LED light strips with 26 addressable zones that light up for notifications and can act as a camera fill light. GSMArena lists them for notifications and as a camera fill light, and they are part of the reason the phone looks different from most rivals. They are a nice touch if you like the design, but not something that changes how the phone works day to day.
Display
The 6.77-inch AMOLED panel has a 1,080 x 2,392 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. AMOLED means each pixel produces its own light, which gives deep blacks and punchy colours in videos and games. The high refresh rate makes scrolling feel smoother, and 1080p resolution is sharp enough at this screen size.
Nothing lists a 3,000-nit peak, which applies to small highlights in HDR content. GSMArena’s lab results are more useful for everyday expectations: 737 nits at maximum manual brightness and 1,273 nits in auto mode. The reviewer lists refresh rates of 30, 60, 90 and 120Hz, and notes HDR10+ support but no Dolby Vision. In its gaming test, most high-frame-rate games were capped below 60fps, although PUBG reached 90fps at 90Hz.
Performance and software
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is a 4 nm chip with one Cortex-A720 core at 2.5 GHz, three more at 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. It is aimed at smooth day-to-day use, social apps, UPI payments, streaming, photography and light-to-moderate gaming, not at pushing the highest graphics settings. We did not open a benchmark page for this phone, so we are not quoting any benchmark scores.
Nothing’s page advertises a “20 GB RAM booster”, which in phones of this kind typically means part of the storage can be used as extra virtual memory. It does not add real RAM, so judge multitasking by the 8GB of physical RAM. GSMArena lists Android 15 with Nothing OS 3.1 and up to three major Android upgrades. That is adequate, but shorter than the five upgrades GSMArena lists for the Nothing Phone (3).
The Essential Key is a dedicated button, and Essential Space is the AI-driven feature that organises screenshots and voice memos. Nothing’s India page mentions Essential Space only briefly, so check the details on the product page if this matters to you.
Cameras
The 50MP main camera has a 1/1.57-inch sensor, f/1.9 lens and OIS. A bigger sensor generally gathers more light, and OIS helps keep shots sharp in dim conditions. The 50MP telephoto offers 2x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide covers wide scenes at a 120-degree view. Selfies come from a 32MP front camera.
The rear cameras record up to 4K at 30fps, and 1080p at up to 120fps. The pages we could access did not include image-quality results, so we are not describing how the photos look. Check independent sample photos before you buy if the camera is your priority. GSMArena also notes that the Pro model differs mainly in having a 3x optical zoom telephoto instead of the 2x here.
Battery and charging
The 5,000mAh battery is listed by both Nothing and GSMArena. Nothing’s page claims a “2-day battery”, but that is a marketing claim and depends on how you use the phone. In GSMArena’s test, the phone recorded an Active Use Score of 13 hours 32 minutes. The reviewer said gaming and web browsing endurance could be better, and that longevity dropped slightly compared with the Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus.
GSMArena lists 50W wired charging. Using a third-party 100W PPS charger, the phone never exceeded 30W of power draw. The test results text gave 33% after 15 minutes, 50% after 23 minutes, 60% after 30 minutes and a full charge in just over an hour, though a comparison table on the same page shows slightly different figures. In either case, it is a decent top-up speed, but not as fast as the 50W rating suggests.
The review unit’s box held only a branded USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a SIM ejector tool, with no charger and no case. The India box may differ, so check the listing for box contents.
Sound
GSMArena found stereo speakers made up of the earpiece and a bottom-firing speaker, rated the loudness Very Good, and called the sound quite good with clear mids and undistorted highs, though slightly less bass than the Nothing Phone (2). The reviewer noted some imbalance between the two speakers because of their placement.
Who should buy it

- People who like the Nothing design and its light strips and want a relatively clean Android experience
- Users who play occasional games and stream a lot, and want stereo speakers
- Anyone who wants a 5,000mAh battery, which scored an Active Use Score of 13 hours 32 minutes in GSMArena’s test
Who should skip it
- Gamers who want the best graphics performance
- People who prefer IP68 water resistance or a metal-and-glass build
- Buyers who want fast real-world charging: GSMArena never saw more than 30W
- Buyers who want more than three major Android upgrades
Alternatives worth comparing
- Nothing Phone (3a) Pro: GSMArena says it is nearly identical to this phone, with a 3x optical zoom telephoto in place of the 2x one
- CMF Phone 2 Pro: per GSMArena, it has a 6.77-inch AMOLED screen, a Dimensity 7300 Pro chip, a 2x telephoto, a 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging, in an IP54 plastic body
- Nothing Phone (3): Nothing’s flagship, which GSMArena lists with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, an IP68 glass body, wireless charging and five promised Android upgrades, though it also found it throttles heavily under stress
What to check before you order
- Variant: confirm White, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage on the Amazon page
- Charger: check what is in the box, because GSMArena’s unit had no charger or case
- Warranty and service: confirm the warranty terms and the seller on the Amazon page, as we could not verify them
- Software: check the Android version and update policy that Nothing states on its India page
- Price: prices change often, so look at the current price on Amazon before deciding
