Cover graphic: HP 15 i5-1335U Review (fd0022TU): Can You Upgrade the 8GB RAM?

The HP Laptop 15 fd0022TU with the 13th Gen Intel Core i5-1335U is a solid choice for college work, office documents, browsing and video calls, but its 8GB of DDR4 memory is the weak link for heavy multitasking. The good news is that the memory sits in two removable SO-DIMM slots according to spec listings, so it can be upgraded later.

This article covers the specific variant behind our Amazon link: the white HP 15-fd0022TU (product number 7Q6Z3PA) with a Core i5-1335U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, a 512GB SSD, a 15.6-inch Full HD display, Intel Iris Xe graphics, a 1080p camera with a privacy shutter and a backlit keyboard. Our verdict: a sensible everyday laptop for buyers who are willing to add RAM, or who mostly do light work.

Please note that this review is based on HP’s published specifications, retailer spec listings and other published information checked on 17 October 2026. We have not tested the laptop hands-on.

At a glance: strengths and trade-offs

  • Good fit for: students, home users and office staff doing documents, spreadsheets, browsing and online meetings
  • Not a good fit for: gamers, video editors, or anyone who wants 16GB out of the box without opening the laptop
  • What works: 10-core Core i5-1335U, 512GB NVMe SSD, upgradeable DDR4 memory, 1080p webcam with privacy shutter, backlit keyboard with numeric keypad
  • What holds it back: only 8GB RAM as shipped, a 250-nit display with 45% NTSC colour coverage, a 41Wh battery, and an older HDMI 1.4b port

HP’s India product page loads its spec table with JavaScript, so the table above was cross-checked against 91mobiles, Phonebunch, Techlomedia and HP’s published spec sheet for the closely related 15-fd0105TU, which uses the same processor and memory layout. Wi-Fi standard and charger wattage are left out because sources disagree.

8GB of RAM: can you upgrade it?

This is the most important question for this model, so it comes first. 91mobiles lists the fd0022TU with 8GB of DDR4-3200 memory in a 2 x 4GB layout across two slots, and HP’s own spec sheet for the sibling 15-fd0105TU (same i5-1335U and 8GB configuration) also lists 2 x 4GB DDR4-3200. The memory upgrade database at Drive Solutions also lists the 15-fd0022TU with two SO-DIMM slots, both filled from the factory.

What that means in practice:

  • The memory is not soldered according to these listings, so it can be replaced
  • Both slots are already occupied, so going to 16GB means replacing both 4GB sticks with two 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMMs, not just adding one
  • Retail spec listings (91mobiles, Techlomedia) state the RAM is expandable up to 16GB, while Drive Solutions lists higher capacities as compatible. HP’s official maximum could not be confirmed, so 16GB is the safe target
  • Using two matching modules keeps the memory in dual-channel mode, which matters for Iris Xe graphics performance

Before opening the laptop, check with HP India service or an authorised service centre how an upgrade affects your warranty, or ask the service centre to fit the memory. One listing (Phonebunch) shows only one RAM slot, which conflicts with the others, so it is worth confirming the slot count with HP for your unit.

Why bother? With Windows 11, a browser with many tabs, Teams or Zoom and Office open together, 8GB fills up quickly and the laptop starts swapping data to the SSD. 16GB gives far more comfortable headroom for a laptop you plan to keep for several years.

Core i5-1335U: what to expect

The Intel Core i5-1335U is a 13th Gen U-series chip with two performance cores and eight efficient cores, giving 10 cores and 12 threads. Notebookcheck lists its clocks as 1.3 to 4.6GHz on the performance cores, a 15W base power and a 55W maximum turbo power, with Iris Xe graphics using 80 execution units.

That combination is designed for thin, efficient laptops rather than raw power. It is well suited to Microsoft Office, Google Docs, browsing, online classes, basic photo editing and light coding. Sustained heavy work such as long video exports will take longer than on H-series processors like the Core Ultra 5 125H.

Iris Xe graphics can handle video playback, an external monitor over HDMI and casual or older games at low settings. It is not meant for modern AAA titles.

The 15.6-inch screen

The display is a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel with an anti-glare finish and thin side bezels. IPS gives stable colours when viewed from an angle, and Full HD is sharp enough for side-by-side document work at this size.

The weak points are brightness and colour. The listed 250 nits is fine in a normally lit room but can look dim near a bright window, and 45% NTSC colour coverage means colours look muted compared with better screens. Students and office users will manage, but anyone editing photos for clients should look for a brighter, wider-gamut screen or use an external monitor.

Build, keyboard and webcam

The HP 15 measures 359.8 x 236 x 18.6mm and weighs about 1.59kg, which is typical for a 15.6-inch everyday laptop and light enough for daily college or office commutes. This variant comes in white.

A full-size backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad is useful for data entry, accounting and spreadsheet work. The 1080p FHD camera with a physical privacy shutter is a practical plus: video calls look sharper than on 720p webcams, and you can block the lens when it is not in use.

Battery, charger and ports

The 3-cell battery is rated at 41Wh, which is on the smaller side for a 15.6-inch laptop. The efficient U-series processor helps, but expect to plug in during long days. Retailer listings for this model quote a 65W adapter, while HP’s sheet for the related fd0105TU lists a 45W adapter, so check the box contents on delivery.

Ports include one USB Type-C, two USB Type-A, an HDMI 1.4b output and a combo audio jack. HDMI 1.4b is fine for a Full HD monitor but limits 4K external displays to lower refresh rates. On HP’s spec sheet for the related fd0105TU, the USB-C port is listed as data-only (no charging or display output), so do not plan on USB-C charging or USB-C monitors with this model unless HP confirms otherwise. There is no SD card slot or Ethernet port listed.

Is it right for you?

Buy it if you want a dependable Windows laptop for study and office tasks, value a numeric keypad, backlit keys and a 1080p webcam, and are comfortable upgrading to 16GB later or mostly do light work.

Skip it if you need 16GB without any upgrade work, want a bright colour-accurate display, need long battery life away from a charger, or want to game or edit video seriously.

Before you place the order

  • Confirm the listing shows the fd0022TU with Core i5-1335U, 8GB DDR4 and 512GB SSD in white, since Amazon pages can switch between colours and configurations
  • Check whether Microsoft Office is included for this exact listing, as the observed Amazon title does not mention it
  • If you plan a RAM upgrade, buy two matching 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM modules and confirm warranty terms with HP first
  • Buy from a seller that provides a valid HP India invoice and register the laptop on HP’s support site
  • On delivery, check the box for the laptop, power adapter and warranty documents

Frequently asked questions

HP 15 questions answered in this review
Questions about the HP 15 that this review answers.

Is the RAM in the HP 15 fd0022TU upgradeable?

Spec listings from 91mobiles and Drive Solutions show two SO-DIMM slots holding 2 x 4GB DDR4-3200 modules, so the memory can be replaced. To reach 16GB, swap both modules for 8GB sticks. Confirm warranty terms with HP before upgrading.

Is 8GB RAM enough on this laptop?

It is enough for light use such as documents, browsing and video calls. For heavy multitasking or keeping the laptop for several years, upgrading to 16GB is recommended.

Does the HP 15 fd0022TU have a backlit keyboard?

Yes. The observed Amazon.in title and 91mobiles both list a full-size backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad.

Can the HP 15 fd0022TU charge through USB-C?

This is not confirmed for the fd0022TU. HP’s spec sheet for the closely related fd0105TU lists its USB-C port as data-only, so assume you will need the bundled adapter.

Is the HP 15 fd0022TU good for gaming?

No. Iris Xe integrated graphics only handle light and older games at low settings. Choose a laptop with a dedicated graphics card for gaming.

Bottom line

The HP Laptop 15 fd0022TU is a practical, well-equipped everyday laptop with a capable Core i5-1335U, a fast 512GB SSD, a 1080p webcam with privacy shutter and a backlit numeric keyboard. Its 8GB of RAM is the main compromise, but because the memory is listed in two removable slots, it can be raised to 16GB. If you would rather not upgrade, compare it with 16GB alternatives before deciding.
