The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Plus is Amazon’s Fire OS 8 streaming stick that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and adds 4K streaming with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos and Wi-Fi 6, all controlled by the Alexa Voice Remote. For Indian owners of a 4K TV with an HDCP 2.2 HDMI port, it is a sensible buy when the TV’s own apps are slow, missing or no longer updated, but it adds little if your TV already runs a quick, current smart platform such as Google TV with Dolby Vision support.
In India, “Fire TV Stick 4K Plus” is the new name for the stick Amazon previously sold as the Fire TV Stick 4K. Below we cover TV and Wi-Fi compatibility, Indian apps, the remote, and when a built-in smart TV platform or rival stick makes more sense.
How this review was put together: it is based on Amazon’s official specifications, Amazon press releases and help pages, and published reviews from named publications, all checked on 17 October 2026. Quick verdict
- Best for: 4K TV owners whose built-in apps are sluggish or incomplete, and Alexa or Prime Video households
- Skip if: your TV already has a fast, up-to-date Google TV or similar platform with Dolby Vision, you rely on Google Cast or AirPlay, or you only watch on a Full HD TV with no plans to move to 4K
- Key strengths: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, AV1 decoding, and a remote that also handles TV power and volume
- Key limitations: a home screen that heavily promotes Amazon content, 8 GB of storage, no Google Cast, and published reviews that disagree on how quick it feels

What the “Plus” name means
Amazon renamed its Android-based Fire TV Stick 4K to the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus in October 2025. PCWorld reported that Amazon said only the name changed, and AFTVnews described the rename as separating it from the cheaper Fire TV Stick 4K Select, which runs Amazon’s newer Vega OS. Amazon India’s October 2025 press release uses the same naming here, listing the 4K Plus as the model formerly called Fire TV Stick 4K.
So reviews of the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K, launched in India in May 2024, remain relevant: they describe the same 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT8696D processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and Wi-Fi 6. Amazon’s developer documentation lists the 4K Plus as a 2025 device with its own model number, but the published specifications match.
Will it work with your TV? HDMI, HDCP and 4K
According to Amazon’s help page on 4K Ultra HD for Fire TV devices, you need an Ultra HD TV with at least one HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2, the copy-protection standard used for 4K streaming. If you route the stick through a soundbar or AV receiver, every device in that chain must support HDCP 2.2 as well. Amazon says ports labelled HDCP 2.2, UHD or 4K typically qualify, but your TV’s manual is the place to confirm it.
If the stick shows a notice that HDCP 2.2 was not detected, try another HDMI port. Amazon also recommends setting the stick’s video resolution to Auto under Settings, then Display and Sounds, then Display.
The stick handles Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, but you only benefit from formats your TV supports. Digit’s review of the second-generation model observed that HDR content can look dull or dark on affordable TVs, and pointed out that Fire TV lets you switch HDR off, although colours may then look washed out. On a Full HD TV it still works, without the 4K and HDR benefits.
Wi-Fi and internet speed
Amazon’s 4K help page recommends an internet connection of at least 15 Mbps, and notes that some apps, such as Netflix, recommend at least 20 Mbps. The 4K Plus supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
The catch is that Wi-Fi 6 only helps if your router supports it. Expert Reviews pointed out that without a Wi-Fi 6 router you may not notice much difference. For a wired connection, Amazon’s specifications list 10/100 Mbps Ethernet through an external adapter, which is not built into the stick.
Apps available in India
Apps are installed from Amazon’s own Appstore. Amazon India’s October 2025 release for its Fire TV 4K range names Prime Video, Netflix, JioHotstar, YouTube and Zee5, plus free ad-supported content, and its May 2024 release also listed miniTV and MX Player. Most services need their own subscriptions.
There are two gaps worth knowing. First, Digit’s review notes that the stick has no Google Cast or AirPlay. It supports Miracast screen mirroring, which Digit found less seamless, and iPhone mirroring needs third-party apps. Second, the interface leans heavily on Amazon. Tom’s Guide reviewer Kelly Woo called the home screen essentially a big advert for Amazon content, and both Expert Reviews and Digit flagged the Amazon-first promotion.
Alexa Voice Remote and smart home control
Amazon says the included Alexa Voice Remote lets you find, launch and control content by voice, gives preset buttons for quick access to apps, and can control power and volume on a wide range of compatible TVs. Amazon also highlights using Echo speakers as an Alexa Home Theatre and controlling smart home devices.
Digit called it one of the most convenient TV remotes, praising the layout, mute button and app hotkeys. Expert Reviews found typing with the remote painful but said voice dictation handled most text well, with email addresses and URLs being the exception. Voice language options for India can vary, so check the Amazon.in listing if you want to use Alexa in a language other than English.
Performance and storage
Published reviews do not agree on speed. Digit found the second-generation stick snappy, with no noticeable lag when seeking. Tom’s Guide listed slightly slow performance as a con, describing a lag of a few seconds when opening apps compared with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Expert Reviews saw apps open in about five seconds.
Storage is the bigger constraint for app-heavy users. Expert Reviews found that only 5.29 GB of the 8 GB was usable, and that after installing 12 apps it had 2.48 GB left.
Fire TV Stick 4K Plus vs Google TV built into your TV
If your 4K TV already runs Google TV or Android TV and it is responsive, still receives app updates, supports Dolby Vision and already has every app you use, adding the 4K Plus mostly duplicates what you have.
The stick makes more sense when the TV’s platform is slow, an app is missing or outdated, the TV has no smart features, or you prefer Alexa.
Who should buy it and who should skip it

Choose the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus if
- You have a 4K TV with an HDCP 2.2 HDMI port and its built-in apps are slow or missing
- Your home uses Alexa, Echo speakers or Prime Video heavily
- You have, or plan to buy, a Wi-Fi 6 router
Skip it if
- Your TV already runs a fast, current Google TV platform with the apps you need
- You cast from phones with Google Cast or AirPlay every day
- You dislike promoted content on the home screen
- You need lots of app storage
Alternatives worth comparing
Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select: Amazon’s entry-level 4K stick, launched in India in October 2025. It runs Vega OS with HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, but Amazon’s specifications show no Dolby Vision, Wi-Fi 5 rather than Wi-Fi 6, and 1 GB of RAM. Amazon India says it brings the Fire TV Ambient Experience art and photo mode.
Xiaomi TV Stick 4K: launched in India in February 2023 with Android TV 11 and Xiaomi’s PatchWall, built-in Chromecast, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS HD, 2 GB RAM, 8 GB storage, dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. It suits people who want casting built in.
Google TV Streamer: Android Authority reported in March 2025 that Google had no plans to launch it in India, so check availability before considering it.
Buying tips: what to check before you order

- Exact model: make sure the listing says Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (newest model) with ASIN B0F7Z6SDBQ, and do not confuse it with the 4K Select, which lacks Dolby Vision and Wi-Fi 6
- TV port: confirm in your TV manual that at least one HDMI input supports HDCP 2.2
- Box contents: read the What’s in the box section on Amazon.in, as we could not verify the India box contents
- Warranty and seller: Reliance Digital lists a 1-year manufacturer warranty, so check the warranty details and seller name on the Amazon.in listing
- Power port: Digit noted the stick uses a micro-USB port for power

Frequently asked questions
Is the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus different from the Fire TV Stick 4K?
According to PCWorld, Amazon said the October 2025 rename changed only the name, not the features.
Does the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus work on a non-smart TV?
Yes, as long as the TV has an HDMI input. For 4K playback, the TV must be an Ultra HD model with an HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2, per Amazon’s help page.
Does it run Vega OS?
No. Amazon lists the 4K Plus on Fire OS 8 (Android 11). Vega OS runs on the cheaper 4K Select.
Can I cast from my Android phone?
Not with Google Cast. The stick supports Miracast screen mirroring, which Digit’s review found less seamless than Google Cast or AirPlay.
Final word
The Fire TV Stick 4K Plus covers every major HDR format, supports Dolby Atmos and Wi-Fi 6, and brings the main Indian streaming apps with a capable Alexa remote. Its weak points are an Amazon-first home screen, limited usable storage and no Google Cast. It is a strong candidate if your TV’s own platform is slow or lacking, and unnecessary if your TV already runs a fast Google TV.
