The Logitech C270 HD Webcam is a basic 720p USB webcam with a fixed-focus lens, a built-in noise-reducing microphone, automatic light correction (RightLight 2) and a universal clip for laptops and monitors. It is a reasonable choice in 2026 if you only need a dependable camera for video calls, online classes or interviews on a desktop PC or an older laptop. If you want sharper 1080p video, a privacy shutter or a USB-C connection, Logitech’s newer Brio models are the better fit.

This guide is based on Logitech’s official product and support specification pages and the Amazon.in listing data, checked on 17 October 2026. It is not a hands-on review, and we did not find a recent independent test from a major publication to cite, so it does not include image samples or test results. Where a detail comes only from the Amazon.in listing, it is labelled.

The Amazon.in listing linked here is titled “Logitech C270 HD Web Camera” with the 720p style and a colour named Black. Logitech’s India website calls the same model’s colour Dark Grey.

The short answer

  • Buy it if: you need a simple plug-in webcam for Zoom, Skype and other video calls on a PC with a USB-A port
  • Buy it if: your desktop has no camera at all, or your old laptop camera has stopped working
  • Strengths: 720p video, mono noise-reducing mic with a stated range of up to 1.5 metres, RightLight 2 light correction, a fold-out universal clip, a 1.5 m cable
  • Limitations: 720p only, fixed focus, no privacy shutter, USB-A plug, and two official Logitech pages disagree on field of view and maximum frame rate
  • Skip if: you stream, record YouTube videos, present documents close to the camera, or only have USB-C ports and do not want an adapter

What 720p and fixed focus mean on a call

720p means a 1280 x 720 picture. On a small video-call tile, which is how most people see you in group calls, 720p usually looks acceptable. Many calling apps also compress or downscale video depending on your internet speed, so the gap between a 720p and a 1080p webcam often shrinks during calls. Where you notice it is on a large monitor, in recordings, or when someone shares your video full screen.

Logitech’s two official pages describe performance a little differently. The product page promotes 720p at 30 fps, while the support specification page lists the maximum frame rate as 30 fps at 640 x 480. In practice, webcam frame rates can depend on the app, the lighting and your computer. If smooth motion at 720p is essential for you, this is a reason to look at a newer model.

Fixed focus means the lens is set to keep subjects sharp across a typical seated distance, and it does not refocus. That suits a person sitting in front of a laptop. It is less suitable if you want to hold a document, a product or handwritten notes up to the lens, since very close objects can look soft. The Amazon.in listing’s technical details describe the focus as auto focus and the lens as a zoom lens. Logitech’s own support page lists fixed focus, so we rely on Logitech.

Field of view: 55 or 60 degrees?

The product page states a 55-degree diagonal field of view, while the support specification page lists 60 degrees. Either figure is relatively narrow, which is fine for a single person at a desk and keeps much of a cluttered room out of frame. It is not designed to fit several people around a table. If you need to show a group, look for a wider-angle conference camera.

Microphone: useful backup, not a studio mic

According to Logitech, the built-in mono microphone reduces background noise and picks up your voice clearly up to 1.5 metres away. That is handy if your PC has no microphone or you do not want to wear a headset. For calls in a noisy house or office, a wired or wireless headset with its own mic will usually isolate your voice better. Logitech’s support page lists the mic as built-in with noise suppression, and notes that a headset is not included in the box.

RightLight 2 and getting a better picture

RightLight 2 is Logitech’s automatic light correction. The product page says it adjusts to lighting conditions to produce brighter, better-contrasted images. Automatic correction can help, but no small webcam sensor fully overcomes a dark room or a bright window behind you. A few simple steps help more than any setting:

  • Face a window or lamp so the light falls on your face, not behind you
  • Add a soft desk light or a small ring light at roughly eye level for evening calls
  • Keep the camera at eye height, clipped to the top of the monitor rather than looking up from a low laptop
  • Wipe the lens gently with a microfibre cloth, since smudges make video look hazy

For lighting and stand ideas, our YouTube starter kit guide for India covers lights and mounts that also work for video calls.

Compatibility and setup

Logitech’s support page lists Windows 8 or later, macOS 10.10 or later and ChromeOS, plus a USB-A port. The Amazon.in listing also mentions Windows 7 and Windows 10 or later. The product page says it works with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.

The USB-A requirement matters in 2026. Many thin laptops and recent Macs have only USB-C ports, so you would need a USB-C to USB-A adapter or a hub. Logitech’s support page lists Logitech Webcam Software 2.0 as the software at release and advises checking for the latest version. Most calling apps simply detect the camera once it is plugged in.

  • Plug the C270 into a USB-A port directly rather than through an unpowered hub if possible
  • Open the camera or video settings in your calling app and select the Logitech C270 as both camera and, if you want, microphone
  • Unfold the clip and seat it on the top edge of the monitor or laptop lid, then tilt the camera to frame your face
  • Run a test call before an important meeting

Privacy: no built-in shutter

Logitech’s support specifications state that the C270 has no privacy shade. An activity and power LED is listed. If you want a physical cover, you can unplug the camera when not in use, turn it to face the wall, or use a stick-on cover. Logitech’s Brio 100, by contrast, is listed on Logitech India’s site with an integrated privacy shutter.

Listing details to ignore

Some of the Amazon.in listing’s technical details do not match a webcam at all, including a 2-inch screen, CompactFlash memory, AVCHD video format, and zoom and aperture figures. Treat these as listing errors. The listing also states a 3 MP still resolution. Logitech’s support page lists still-image options up to 3.0 MP, but the optical resolution is 1280 x 960 (1.2 MP), so larger still sizes cannot add real detail beyond what the sensor captures.

Logitech alternatives worth comparing

These are other webcams listed on Logitech India’s website on 17 October 2026.

  • Logitech Brio 100: Full HD 1080p with auto-light balance, an integrated privacy shutter and a built-in mic. The most direct step up if you want sharper video and a physical shutter.
  • Logitech Brio 300: 1080p with auto light correction, a noise-reducing mic and USB-C connectivity. Better suited to modern laptops with USB-C ports.
  • Logitech C922 Pro HD Stream Webcam: 1080p at 30 fps, marketed by Logitech as a streaming webcam. Worth considering if you record or stream.

What to check before you order

Logitech C270 HD buying checklist
What to check before you buy the Logitech C270 HD.
  • Model: make sure the listing title reads Logitech C270 HD and the style is 720p. The Amazon.in listing names the colour Black, while Logitech calls it Dark Grey
  • Ports: confirm your computer has a free USB-A port, or buy a USB-C adapter
  • Box contents: Logitech’s support page notes that no headset and no desktop stand are included. The clip is part of the camera
  • Warranty: Logitech’s support page refers you to the product support page for the warranty duration. Check the warranty stated on the Amazon.in listing and keep your invoice

Frequently asked questions

Is the Logitech C270 720p or 1080p?

It is a 720p webcam. Logitech’s product page promotes 720p at 30 fps, and its support page lists 720p as the highest 16:9 video mode.

Does the Logitech C270 have autofocus?

No. Logitech’s support specification page lists fixed focus. The Amazon.in listing’s mention of auto focus does not match Logitech’s specifications.

Does it work with a MacBook or Chromebook?

Logitech lists macOS 10.10 or later and ChromeOS. It needs a USB-A port, so most recent MacBooks and many Chromebooks will need a USB-C adapter.

Does the C270 have a microphone?

Yes. It has a built-in mono microphone with noise reduction, which Logitech says picks up your voice clearly up to 1.5 metres away.

Does it have a privacy shutter?

No. Logitech’s support specifications list no privacy shade. Logitech’s Brio 100 includes an integrated privacy shutter.

How long is the cable?

Logitech lists a 1.5 m (5 ft) cable.

Verdict

The Logitech C270 HD Webcam remains a simple, low-fuss camera for everyday video calls: 720p video, a noise-reducing mic, light correction and a clip that fits most screens. Its age shows in the fixed focus, the lack of a privacy shutter, the USB-A plug and inconsistent official figures for field of view and frame rate. Buy it for basic calls on a PC with USB-A. Choose a Brio model if you want 1080p, USB-C or a shutter.
