boAt Nirvana Ion Review: 120-Hour Battery Claim, In-Ear Detection and No ANC

The boAt Nirvana Ion claims 120 hours of total playback and 24 hours per charge, with in-ear detection and a 60ms BEAST Mode. Here is what boAt's official specs say, and why this standard model has no ANC.

The boAt Nirvana Ion is a battery-first pair of true wireless earbuds: boAt claims up to 120 hours of total playback with the case and up to 24 hours from the earbuds on a single charge. It also lists 10mm drivers, quad mics with ENx call noise reduction, a 60ms BEAST Mode for gaming, in-ear detection and IPX4. It suits people who hate charging earbuds and mostly use them for music, videos and calls.

The short verdict: buy the Nirvana Ion for its battery claims and convenient in-ear detection, not for noise cancellation. The standard Nirvana Ion does not have active noise cancellation (ANC), even though one field on the Amazon.in listing says it does. boAt sells a separate Nirvana ION ANC model for that.

This article is based on boAt’s official product and support pages, FoneArena’s launch report and the Amazon.in listing. GadgetSoch has not tested the earbuds hands-on. All details were checked on 17 October 2026.

Quick verdict

  • Best for: students, commuters and frequent travellers who want long battery life, simple controls and auto-pause when an earbud comes out
  • Skip if: you need ANC, a companion app with a custom EQ, dual-device connection, or a higher water-resistance rating than IPX4
  • Key strengths: 120-hour total playback claim, 24-hour per-charge claim, in-ear detection, two EQ modes, quad mics with ENx, 60ms BEAST Mode, USB-C with ASAP Charge
  • Key limitations: no ANC, Bluetooth 5.2 rather than a newer version, no multipoint listed, no app mentioned by boAt, voice prompts cannot be turned off, and the warranty wording differs between boAt pages

Which Nirvana Ion is this?

boAt uses the Nirvana Ion name on more than one product, so check what you are ordering. The link on this page is for the standard boAt Nirvana Ion in Ivory White. Its Amazon.in title lists “120HRS Battery, Crystal Bionic Sound w/Dual EQ Modes, 4Mics ENx, App Support, Low Latency, IPX4, v.5.2”.

boAt’s official page for this model does not describe ANC. Instead, it lists ENx Technology, which uses the microphones to reduce background noise on your voice during calls. It does not reduce the noise you hear. The Amazon.in technical details still list “Noise Control: Active Noise Cancellation”, which conflicts with boAt’s own page. We go by boAt’s page here. If you want ANC, look for the separately listed boAt Nirvana ION ANC, which boAt markets as having active noise cancellation.

The listing title also mentions “App Support”. Neither boAt’s product page nor its support page for the Nirvana Ion mentions a companion app, so do not count on one.

Battery life: what 120 hours and 24 hours mean

The battery claim is the reason most people consider the Nirvana Ion. boAt lists a 600mAh case and 70mAh in each earbud, and claims up to 24 hours of playback from the earbuds on one charge, with the case taking the total to 120 hours. FoneArena’s launch report described it as a full month of battery life from a 2.5-hour charge, without stating daily usage.

Two points keep this in perspective. First, boAt does not state the volume or EQ setting behind these numbers, and higher volume and BEAST Mode use more power. Second, we did not find an independent battery test of this model to confirm the 24-hour figure.

On charging, boAt lists about 2.5 hours to fill the case and about 1 hour for the earbuds. The Amazon.in listing gives 2 hours, a small mismatch. boAt names ASAP Charge but does not say how many hours of playback a short top-up gives. Its support page also advises using a 5V 2A charger and avoiding 9V or 12V chargers, which it says can damage the case.

Sound and EQ modes

boAt describes the sound as Crystal Bionic Sound, processed by a HiFi DSP that FoneArena identifies as HiFi DSP 5. There are two EQ modes: boAt Signature Sound and boAt Balanced Sound. You switch between them with a 2-second long press on the left earbud, according to boAt’s support page.

Two presets are fewer than an app-based equaliser would give you. The 10mm drivers and the 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range are typical for the segment and say little about real sound quality. We did not find independent sound measurements for this model.

Calls, controls and in-ear detection

For calls, boAt lists quad mics with ENx Technology to reduce ambient noise around your voice. boAt’s support page describes it as dual microphones with environmental noise cancellation using four microphones. We found no independent call test.

In-ear detection is the feature you notice daily: music plays when you put the buds in and pauses when you remove one. The earbuds also support mono mode, so you can use a single earbud, though boAt notes that skipping tracks does not work in mono mode.

GestureAction (per boAt’s support page)
Single tapPlay or pause, answer a call
Double tap (either bud)End or reject a call
Double tap left or rightPrevious or next track
Triple tap left or rightVolume down or up by 25%
Long press left (2 seconds)Switch EQ mode
Long press right (2 seconds)Turn on BEAST Mode
Four taps rightVoice assistant

The earbuds power on automatically when you take them out of the case and turn off when you put them back. There is no manual power switch. boAt’s Insta Wake N’ Pair feature reconnects the buds when you open the case, after the first pairing. One small annoyance: the support page says the voice prompts cannot be turned off or lowered.

Gaming and latency

BEAST Mode lowers latency to a claimed 60ms. boAt’s support page describes it as suited to casual gaming rather than professional gaming.

Build and water resistance

The IPX4 rating covers sweat and splashes. boAt’s support page says not to submerge the earbuds or use them while swimming or in the shower. boAt lists the dimensions as 21.7mm x 24.8mm x 32.8mm and says a silicone cover matching the colour comes in the box. Weight is not published.

Who should buy the Nirvana Ion, and who should not

Who should buy the Nirvana Ion
Who the Nirvana Ion suits, summarised from this review.
  • Buy it if you want long battery life, in-ear detection and simple touch controls, and you mostly listen at home, at college or in an office
  • Skip it if you commute on noisy buses or trains and want ANC to cut that noise
  • Skip it if you switch between a phone and a laptop often, since boAt does not list dual-device connection
  • Skip it if you want app-based EQ control or a newer Bluetooth version

Alternatives to consider

  • boAt Nirvana ION ANC: the ANC sibling. boAt lists quad mics with ENx, up to 120 hours of total playback, up to 24 hours from the earbuds and IPX4. boAt does not publish an ANC dB figure for it, and its listed colours are Green Grove and Doodle Drift
  • Boult Z40 Pro: Boult lists up to 100 hours of total playback, Bluetooth 5.3, a 45ms low-latency mode, quad-mic ENC, IPX5 and 10 minutes of charging for 120 minutes of playtime. Like the Nirvana Ion, it has no ANC
  • boAt Airdopes 141 ANC: boAt lists up to 32dB ANC, 10mm drivers, Bluetooth v5.3, IPX5 and up to 42 hours of total playback. It trades battery life for noise cancellation

If noise cancellation matters more to you than battery life, the Airdopes 141 ANC or the Nirvana ION ANC is the better match. If you want a similar no-ANC, long-battery pair with a higher water-resistance rating, the Boult Z40 Pro is worth comparing. Our guide to the best budget TWS earbuds in India covers more options.

Buying tips before you order

Nirvana Ion buying checklist
What to check before you buy the Nirvana Ion.
  • Confirm the model: make sure the listing says Nirvana Ion, not Nirvana ION ANC, and that the colour is Ivory White if that is the one you want. Our link is for the Ivory White standard model.
  • Ignore the ANC field: the standard model’s official page does not claim ANC, regardless of what a listing field says.
  • Box contents: boAt lists the earbuds and charging case, a Type-C cable, a user manual, a warranty card and a matching silicone cover. The Amazon.in listing also mentions extra ear tips. A wall charger is not listed.
  • Warranty: the Amazon.in listing and boAt’s FAQ say 1 year. boAt’s product page also mentions a 12-month warranty plus a 3-month extension for purchases on or after 15 April 2025, tied to a valid serial number. Keep your invoice and check the warranty card in the box.
  • Charger: use a 5V 2A adapter, as boAt’s support page recommends.
  • Service: boAt’s support page lists a phone line and WhatsApp support, from 9 am to 7 pm, closed on Sundays and national holidays.

Frequently asked questions

Does the boAt Nirvana Ion have ANC?

No. boAt’s official page for the standard Nirvana Ion lists ENx call noise reduction, not active noise cancellation. boAt sells a separate Nirvana ION ANC model.

How long does the Nirvana Ion battery last?

boAt claims up to 24 hours from the earbuds on one charge and up to 120 hours in total with the case. It does not state the test conditions, and we found no independent battery test.

Does the Nirvana Ion work with an app?

The Amazon.in title mentions app support, but boAt’s product and support pages do not mention any companion app. The two EQ modes are switched with a long press on the left earbud.

Can I use the Nirvana Ion for gaming?

Yes, for casual gaming. BEAST Mode brings latency down to a claimed 60ms, and boAt itself says it suits casual rather than professional gaming.

How do I reset the Nirvana Ion?

Per boAt’s support page: forget the earbuds in your phone’s Bluetooth settings, place both buds in the case with the lid open, and hold the case reset button for 10 seconds until the LED flashes red. Then pair again.

Conclusion

The boAt Nirvana Ion makes sense if battery life and convenience top your list. boAt’s 120-hour total and 24-hour per-charge claims, in-ear detection and two EQ modes cover everyday needs. It is not an ANC product, it does not list multipoint or an app, and it uses Bluetooth 5.2. If that trade-off suits you, check the current price of the boAt Nirvana Ion on Amazon.in.
