The HMD 110 is a basic 2G keypad phone from HMD, the company behind modern Nokia-branded phones, and its main selling point is a built-in Scan and Pay UPI feature alongside a rear camera, a torch, wireless FM radio and call recording. It is a good fit for someone who wants a simple, tough calling phone that can also handle UPI payments, but its 2-inch screen and 1,000mAh battery are modest, and it is not suited to Jio users or anyone who needs apps.

This article covers the Green variant linked from Amazon.in. It is based on HMD’s official India product and specification pages, HMD’s replacement-guarantee terms and the Amazon.in listing data, all checked on 17 October 2026. It is not based on hands-on testing. Where the Amazon listing disagrees with HMD’s own specifications, that is pointed out below, and HMD’s figures are treated as the reliable ones.

Quick verdict

  • Best for: parents, shopkeepers and first-time UPI users who want a simple calling phone that can also pay through UPI
  • Skip if: you use a Jio SIM, want WhatsApp or 4G, or need a large screen and multi-day heavy talk time
  • Key strengths: Scan and Pay UPI, rear camera with a flash that doubles as a torch, wired and wireless FM, call recording, IP52 splash and dust protection, removable battery, 13 language support, 1-year replacement guarantee
  • Key limitations: 2-inch QQVGA screen, 1,000mAh battery with up to 9 hours of talk time, 2G GSM only, MP3 and voice recorder need a microSD card that is sold separately

UPI on a keypad phone: what HMD actually promises

The headline feature of the HMD 110 is UPI. HMD’s product page lists “Scan and pay UPI” as a feature with the line “Scan and pay with your new HMD device”, and the Amazon.in listing calls it a built-in UPI app. The name points to scanning a merchant’s QR code with the rear camera, which is why the camera matters on this phone.

What HMD’s page does not explain is which UPI method the feature uses, which banks are supported or whether a data connection is required. Before relying on it for daily payments, keep these general UPI basics in mind:

  • Your bank account must be linked to the same mobile number as the SIM in the phone, because UPI registration is tied to that number.
  • Setting a UPI PIN usually needs your debit card details, as with any UPI setup.
  • Never share your UPI PIN, and remember that you only enter a PIN to send money, never to receive it.
  • Try a small payment first to check that your bank works smoothly with the phone.

For people who do not want a smartphone but are often asked to pay by QR code at shops, a keypad phone with UPI built in can remove a real daily hassle. Just set it up with someone you trust if you are new to UPI.

Calling, battery and the 2G question

The HMD 110 is a 2G phone that supports the GSM 900 and 1800 bands, according to HMD. That has two practical consequences. First, it cannot carry Jio calls, because Jio’s network runs voice over 4G VoLTE. Airtel, Vi and BSNL SIMs are the ones to use. Second, there is no 4G internet, so apps such as WhatsApp are not part of this phone’s world.

The SIM slot takes a Mini SIM, the full-size “standard” SIM. Most new SIM cards come pre-cut so you can pop out any size, so this is rarely a problem. The Amazon.in listing describes the phone as single SIM, and HMD’s spec page does not mention a second SIM slot, so do not buy it expecting dual SIM.

HMD rates the 1,000mAh battery at up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 8 days of standby, both under laboratory conditions. That is enough for a typical day of calls, but it is clearly less than phones with larger batteries, such as the itel it5330 with its 1,900mAh cell. A useful plus is that the battery is removable, so a worn-out battery can be replaced without throwing the phone away. Charging is through Micro USB, and HMD lists a Micro USB charger in the box.

Screen, camera and everyday extras

The 2-inch QQVGA screen is small and low resolution, as is normal for basic keypad phones. It is fine for names, numbers and SMS, but users with weak eyesight may prefer a 2.8-inch model. Ignore the listing’s “720p” and “1280 x 720” entries, as HMD lists the screen as QQVGA.

The rear camera is listed as QVGA, which is very basic. Its main jobs on this phone are scanning payment QR codes and acting as a flash that doubles as a high-power torch, according to HMD. That torch is a practical feature during power cuts or late-evening walks.

The other extras are what most keypad buyers want: FM radio that works with wired or wireless audio, an MP3 player, a voice recorder, call recording, space for up to 2,000 contacts, the Snake game and support for 13 languages. Note that HMD says the MP3 player and voice recorder need a microSD card, sold separately, so add a card to your shopping list. The Amazon.in listing also mentions a “Phone Talker” feature, but HMD’s product page does not describe it, so treat it as a listing claim and check it after delivery if read-aloud prompts matter to you.

Build quality and durability

HMD describes a polycarbonate body with a nano-textured, ceramic gradient coating on the back and a tough metal inner frame. The phone carries an IP52 rating. In simple terms, IP52 means limited dust protection and resistance to light dripping water, such as a few drops of rain. It is not waterproof, so do not take it into the bath or leave it in heavy rain. The Amazon.in listing marks it as “not water resistant”, which is more cautious than HMD’s rating. At 78 g and 14 mm thick, according to HMD, it is light and pocketable.

Warranty: the 1-year replacement guarantee

Both HMD’s page and the Amazon.in listing mention a 1 year replacement guarantee. HMD’s terms page says the programme applies to select Nokia and HMD devices bought in India and covers hardware failures and manufacturing defects that fall under the limited warranty. HMD decides at its discretion whether to replace a device, the replacement may be new or refurbished, and your removable battery and back cover may be reused. Keep the original invoice, as the terms require it.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Who should buy the HMD 110
Who the HMD 110 suits, summarised from this review.

Buy it if you want a straightforward calling phone with UPI built in, a torch, FM radio and a replaceable battery, and you use an Airtel, Vi or BSNL SIM. It also makes sense as a second phone for shop counters and deliveries where QR payments are common.

Look elsewhere if you need a bigger screen, longer talk time, dual SIM, 4G, WhatsApp or a Jio connection. If you are on Jio and want a keypad phone with UPI, our JioBharat K1 Karbonn review covers a 4G option built for Jio.

HMD 110 alternatives

HMD 105: HMD’s spec page lists the same 2-inch QQVGA screen, 1,000mAh removable battery, up to 9 hours of talk time, wired and wireless FM, microSD up to 32 GB and IP52. The page does not list a camera, and HMD’s page description mentions UPI payment support. It is worth comparing if you do not need the camera and torch.

itel it5330: FoneArena’s launch report lists a larger 2.8-inch screen, a 1,900mAh battery with up to 31.7 hours of talk time, dual SIM, King Voice read-aloud and auto call recording. It does not mention UPI, so it suits buyers who want screen size and battery over payments.

itel Super Guru 600: according to Smartprix’s spec listing, it pairs a 2.8-inch screen and a 1,900mAh battery with UPI payments through UPI 123Pay and a 1.3MP camera.

Before you order

HMD 110 buying checklist
What to check before you buy the HMD 110.
  • Check that the listing title says Green. This article’s link points to the Green variant, and HMD also sells a Black version separately.
  • Buy a microSD card if you want music or the voice recorder, as HMD says both need one.
  • Confirm your SIM provider supports 2G in your area. Jio SIMs will not work.
  • Keep the invoice for the replacement guarantee, and note that replacements are at HMD’s discretion.
  • Verify the box contents on delivery against HMD’s list: Micro USB charger, removable battery and user guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does the HMD 110 have UPI?

Yes. HMD lists a built-in Scan and Pay UPI feature, and the Amazon.in listing calls it a built-in UPI app. HMD’s page does not detail which banks are supported, so test it with a small payment first.

Is the HMD 110 a dual SIM phone?

The Amazon.in listing describes it as single SIM, and HMD’s spec page lists only a Mini SIM without mentioning a second slot.

Does the HMD 110 work with Jio?

No. It is a 2G GSM phone, while Jio’s voice service needs 4G VoLTE. Use an Airtel, Vi or BSNL SIM.

How long does the HMD 110 battery last?

HMD quotes up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 8 days of standby from the 1,000mAh removable battery, measured in laboratory conditions.

Is the HMD 110 waterproof?

No. HMD rates it IP52, which covers limited dust and light dripping water, not submersion.

Is the HMD 110 the same as the HMD 105?

No. Both share a 2-inch screen and a 1,000mAh battery, but HMD lists a rear camera with a torch-style flash for the HMD 110, while the HMD 105 spec page lists no camera.

Final word

The HMD 110 is a sensible, no-fuss keypad phone for people who want UPI payments without a smartphone, backed by IP52 protection, a replaceable battery and HMD’s replacement guarantee. Its small screen, modest battery and 2G-only network are the trade-offs. If those suit you, check the current price of the HMD 110 on Amazon.in.
