The Apple Watch Series 12 (the GPS 46mm model, per the Amazon.in listing we link to) is Apple’s newest mainstream smartwatch, and the short answer is that it is the best all-round Apple Watch for iPhone owners, but not a reason to upgrade if you already have a Series 10 or 11. Its main changes are a redesigned heart-rate sensing system, a new Readiness score, an S11 chip and tougher glass on aluminium cases. The look, the 24-hour battery rating and the overall feel are close to last year’s model.
How this article was written: it is based on Apple’s official India pages and on published reviews from TechRadar, T3 and 91mobiles. It is not based on hands-on testing, and every battery or accuracy figure below is credited to the reviewer who reported it. Specifications were checked on 29 October 2026.
Quick verdict
- Best for: iPhone owners on a Series 9 or older, or on a band or an Android watch, who want a polished everyday watch with strong health tracking

Design: familiar, and that is mostly fine
TechRadar says the Series 12 keeps the familiar squircle shape, Digital Crown and side button, with little visual change from the Series 11, and T3 describes it as very similar to recent generations. T3 also found it slim, light and comfortable enough to wear overnight, and liked the Dark Bronze finish. If you want a visible redesign, this is not it. If you want a watch that vanishes on your wrist during sleep tracking, it works.
The ceramic and titanium cases are the premium end of the range and cost more, but this article covers the plain 46mm GPS listing. The Amazon title does not name the case material, colour or band, so check the product page for what is shown before you pay, since the finish and strap are part of what you receive.
Display and glass
The display is an Always-On LTPO3 OLED rated at up to 2,000 nits, the same peak figure Apple lists for the Series 11. 91mobiles found it easy to read in harsh sunlight and notes the refresh rate can fall to 1 Hz to save power. The practical difference from last year is not in the panel but in the glass: T3 reports that aluminium models move from Ion-X to Ceramic Shield 2, and Apple says that is 60 percent tougher, while titanium and ceramic models keep sapphire crystal. For a watch that bumps into door frames and gym racks, a tougher aluminium front is a useful, if unglamorous, improvement.
The new heart-rate system and Readiness score
This is the real upgrade. Apple says the redesigned Health Sensing System takes background heart-rate readings every 5 seconds, which it says is 60 times as often as on the Series 11, and HRV readings as often as every 5 minutes. 91mobiles confirms the five-second figure, and T3 contrasts it with roughly one reading every five minutes on the Series 11.
Does it matter in real life? Reviewers are measured. T3 compared it with a Garmin Fenix 9 Pro and found averages close: 138 against 137 beats per minute on a long run, 93 for both on a walk, and 124 against 122 on a bike ride. Its reviewer concludes the gain over rivals is often marginal. TechRadar says readings were broadly consistent with other devices and that the Ultra 4 matched a chest strap, calling it highly accurate. In short, expect trustworthy workout heart-rate data, not a leap beyond what good competitors already do.
The Readiness score is a recovery rating that combines overnight sleep, HRV and other data. TechRadar describes a score from 1 to 10, compared it for a week against a Garmin and saw identical results, and says it needs no separate subscription. T3 found the score took about two weeks to appear and calls it well executed but overdue, since Garmin and Oura have offered similar metrics for years. The sensible reading is that Apple has caught up and added it for free.
Other health tools carried over: ECG, blood oxygen, sleep apnea notifications, wrist temperature, heart rate and irregular rhythm alerts, and fall and crash detection. Apple labels some of these as wellness features and not medical diagnoses. 91mobiles notes the watch cannot measure blood pressure and did not say which features are available in India, so check Apple’s availability notes for anything you are buying the watch for.
Battery life and charging
Apple rates the Series 12 for up to 24 hours of normal use and up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode, the same as the Series 11. Apple’s page adds that these figures come from pre-production devices. Fast charging is stronger: Apple says 15 minutes gives up to 12 hours of use.
Reviewers report a day and a bit, not several days. TechRadar’s reviewer had 30 to 45 percent left by bedtime on a normal day with one long workout, and sometimes got a day and a half, but the watch ran out overnight twice, so a quick charge before bed became habit. 91mobiles got what it called a couple of days across two days of use with sleep tracking and a 30-minute GPS workout each, though it usually needed a top-up before bed on the second night; a 15-minute charge added 30 to 35 percent there. T3 ran a Low Power Mode test that took the watch from 100 percent to 20 percent over about 46 hours, and measured about 7 percent used per hour on a 55-minute outdoor run. T3 also names battery life as the watch’s oldest problem.
What that means for you: charge it daily, ideally in a short top-up while you get ready, and do not buy it expecting a week.
Performance, AI features and connectivity
The S11 chip powers the new software features. TechRadar says the watch feels responsive with little to no stutter, but it does not run laps around earlier models. Apple’s page describes Audio Intelligence, including Live Rewind, Siri Recap and faster Shazam, as requiring the Series 12 or Ultra 4. It also says Live Rewind and Siri Recap are in beta, English-first, and need an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 16 or later, excluding the 16e. Neither TechRadar, T3 nor 91mobiles could fully test them, and TechRadar advises waiting for confirmed release dates and regional availability.
Because this listing is a GPS model, calls and data away from Wi-Fi depend on a nearby iPhone. If you want cellular, that is a different variant. Apple’s page mentions 5G while TechRadar’s spec table lists 4G LTE, so confirm the cellular details with Apple and your operator before paying for that version.
Who should buy it, and who should skip it
- Buy if you have a Series 9 or older, a basic fitness band, or no smartwatch and you use an iPhone
- Buy if recovery metrics matter to you and you do not want a subscription, since TechRadar notes Readiness has none
- Skip if you own a Series 10 or 11. TechRadar says the upgrade is less compelling from those, and T3 says recent-model owners have little reason to move
- Skip if you use Android, since the Apple Watch needs an iPhone
- Skip if you want multi-day battery. 91mobiles says battery is not the best among smartwatches
Alternatives to compare
- Apple Watch Series 11: the previous generation with an S10 chip and the same 24-hour battery rating on Apple’s pages. It lacks the Series 12’s new sensing system and Ceramic Shield 2 glass.
- Apple Watch Ultra 3: a 49mm titanium model with a 3,000-nit display, up to 42 hours of battery, 100 m water resistance and dual-frequency GPS, according to Apple’s compare page.
- Apple Watch SE 3: a 40mm or 44mm aluminium model with an 18-hour rating and a 1,000-nit display, per Apple’s compare page.
- Garmin and Amazfit: 91mobiles suggests Garmin for serious athletes and Amazfit for budget buyers. We have not compared specific models here.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Apple Watch Series 12 worth it over the Series 11?
Only if the new sensing system, Readiness score or tougher aluminium glass matter to you. The battery rating on Apple’s pages is the same, and TechRadar calls the upgrade from the Series 11 less compelling.
How long does the Series 12 battery last?
Apple rates it at up to 24 hours of normal use and up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Reviewers report roughly a day to a day and a half, so plan on daily charging.
Does the Series 12 work with Android?
No. Apple’s page lists iPhone requirements, and the watch is built around the iPhone.
Can the Series 12 measure blood pressure?
No. 91mobiles notes it cannot, and it adds that Samsung leads on blood pressure monitoring.
Is the Series 12 waterproof?
Apple lists WR50M water resistance for swimming and shallow water to 6 m. It is not meant for scuba or water sports, and Apple says resistance can decline over time.
Final thoughts
The Apple Watch Series 12 GPS 46mm is the best mainline Apple Watch yet, according to T3, thanks to better heart-rate sensing, a free Readiness score and faster charging. Its weak spots are a day-long battery and a design that barely changed. For owners of recent models it is a skip. For everyone else on an iPhone it is a strong choice. Check the current price of the Apple Watch Series 12 on Amazon.in before deciding.
