The pTron KWM-1 is a budget 2.4GHz wireless collar mic kit for phones and tablets with a USB Type-C port. pTron rates it for up to 25 metres of range and about 5 hours of battery life, with DSP noise reduction and wind muffs, and the Amazon.in listing shows two microphones and one receiver in the box. It suits creators who want a simple plug-and-play mic pair for interviews, vlogs and video calls, but buyers who need long battery life, a charging case or published audio specs should look elsewhere.

This article is based on pTron’s official KWM-1 product page and the Amazon.in listing data captured on 17 October 2026, not on hands-on testing. We could not find independent reviews of the KWM-1, so nothing here describes how it actually sounds; it explains what the published claims mean and where the information has gaps.

Our Amazon link points to the black KWM-1 listing. pTron’s own store also lists an Onyx colour as a separate product.

The short verdict

  • Good for: two-person interviews, couple or family vlogs, teachers and presenters using a USB-C phone, and anyone who wants an auto-connecting mic with no app
  • Look elsewhere if: you need more than about 5 hours per charge, want a charging case, use a Lightning-port iPhone, or need to connect to a camera’s 3.5mm input
  • Strengths on paper: two mics according to the listing, 25m rated range, DSP noise reduction, wind muffs and foam filters included, rechargeable receiver and transmitters, 1-year pTron warranty
  • Weak spots: short rated battery life, no published frequency response, signal-to-noise ratio or latency figures, and a few listing errors you should be aware of

Specifications and what is in the box

Setting it up: clip, plug, record

pTron describes the KWM-1 as true plug and play: clip the mic to your collar, plug the receiver into the phone’s Type-C port, and the system connects automatically with no setup. There is no app and no Bluetooth pairing to do. Because the receiver presents itself to the phone as an external microphone, the phone’s own camera app should pick it up, as should most recording and video calling apps.

A few practical tips apply to any plug-in receiver like this. Clip the mic about a hand’s width below your chin, on the side you will be facing. Fit the foam or fur muff before you start, not after you hear the problem. And record a short test clip with your actual app, because some third-party apps keep using the phone’s built-in mic unless you change their audio input setting.

Two mics on one receiver: interviews and duo videos

The most useful thing about this listing is the second microphone. According to the Amazon.in box contents, you get two mics, and the listing shows 2 channels. pTron’s page refers to “transmitters” in the plural but never states the number, and the product title on both pTron’s site and Amazon does not say “dual”. So the listing is the only source for the two-mic count. Check the box contents on the listing again before you order.

With two mics on one receiver, you can record a host and a guest, a couple vlog, or a teacher and a student without passing one mic back and forth. pTron does not explain how the two mics are recorded, whether mixed together into one track or kept on separate left and right channels. Plan on treating it as a mixed recording unless you confirm otherwise in the user guide. That means you cannot easily lower one person’s level later, so position both mics at a similar distance from each speaker’s mouth.

Noise reduction, wind and the omnidirectional catch

Both the pTron page and the listing describe a 360-degree omnidirectional mic with DSP noise reduction. Omnidirectional means the mic hears sound from every direction, which is normal for clip-on mics and keeps your voice consistent even when you turn your head. The flip side is that fans, coolers, traffic and room echo are captured too. DSP noise reduction processes the signal to lower steady background sounds; pTron does not say how strong it is or whether it can be switched off, and we found no independent tests that measure it.

The wind muffs are a genuine plus. The listing says four mic muffs come in the box, and pTron’s page mentions both wind muffs and foam filters. Outdoors, even a light breeze can cause loud rumbling on an uncovered lavalier mic, so having covers included saves you an extra purchase, which matters for street vlogs, outdoor classes or event coverage.

Battery life: the weak point on paper

pTron rates the KWM-1 at about 5 hours of battery life and says both the transmitters and the receiver are rechargeable. Five hours is enough for several short videos or a long meeting, but it is shorter than some rivals, and there is no charging case listed to top up the mics on the move. pTron does not publish battery capacity or charging time.

In practice, charge everything the night before a shoot, and if you record events or long lectures, plan breaks to recharge from a power bank. Because the receiver has its own battery, remember to charge it too, not just the mics.

Gaps and errors in the listing

A few details on the Amazon.in listing do not add up, and it is better to know about them than be surprised. The technical details say “3 9V batteries required (included)”, which does not fit a tiny clip-on mic described as rechargeable; treat that line as a listing error. The weight field reads “30 Grams” under a unit-of-measure label, so the actual weight of each piece is unclear. The listing also gives the country of origin as India, while pTron’s own product page says the item is made in China and imported by Palred Electronics.

More importantly, pTron does not publish the audio figures that help compare wireless mics: frequency response, bit depth, signal-to-noise ratio and latency. Without them, the KWM-1 is harder to judge against rivals such as the Digitek DWM-010, which lists all four.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Who should buy the pTron KWM-1
Who the pTron KWM-1 suits, summarised from this review.

The KWM-1 suits buyers who want two clip-on mics for a USB-C phone at the lowest fuss: small YouTube channels doing interviews, couples and families making vlogs, tutors and presenters, and anyone joining video meetings from a phone or tablet. If you are building a basic creator setup, our YouTube starter kit guide for India covers lights and stands too.

Look elsewhere if you shoot long days and cannot stop to charge, if you want published specs to compare before buying, if you use a Lightning-port iPhone, or if you want to connect to a DSLR or mirrorless camera. A wired lavalier avoids battery worries entirely; our BOYA BY-M1 review covers one such option.

Other mics to compare

pTron KWM-2: pTron’s step-up model adds a charging case. Its official page describes dual charging microphones, a Type-C receiver, DSP noise cancellation, a 20m to 25m range, and up to 48 hours of recording time with the charging case. If battery life is your main worry, this is the obvious alternative in the same family.

Digitek DWM-010: A single-mic Type-C kit. Digitek’s official page lists 2.4GHz transmission with under 20ms delay, 20Hz to 20kHz response, 24-bit depth, a 40m line-of-sight range (20m around corners) and about 7 hours of battery. It suits solo creators who want more published detail but do not need a second mic.

Digitek DWM-116: Digitek’s official page lists two transmitters, one receiver, a charging case and a Type-C to Lightning connector, with about 6 hours of continuous use or 24 hours with the case. It is worth a look if you need two mics and also use an older Lightning iPhone.

Before you order

pTron KWM-1 buying checklist
What to check before you buy the pTron KWM-1.
  • Check the variant and box contents: confirm the listing says KWM-1, black, with 2 microphones, 1 receiver and 4 mic muffs
  • Check your port: the receiver is USB Type-C. The title mentions iPhone, but pTron’s page only says phones and tablets with a Type-C port, so Lightning-port iPhones cannot use it directly
  • Check phone case clearance: thick cases can stop the receiver from seating fully
  • Warranty: pTron’s page states a 1-year manufacturer warranty covering manufacturing defects only, so keep your Amazon invoice
  • Support: the listing names Palred Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, with customer care number 040-67138888
  • Test on day one: record a short clip with both mics as soon as it arrives so you can raise any fault early

FAQs

Does the pTron KWM-1 come with two mics?

The Amazon.in listing’s box contents list 2 microphones and 1 receiver. pTron’s own page refers to transmitters in the plural but does not state the count, so confirm on the listing before you buy.

Does the pTron KWM-1 work with iPhone?

Only with iPhones that have a USB Type-C port. pTron’s page says the receiver works with phones and tablets that have a Type-C port and does not mention Lightning.

How long does the KWM-1 battery last?

pTron rates it at about 5 hours. No charging case is listed, and charging time is not published.

Is the pTron KWM-1 Bluetooth?

No. It uses a 2.4GHz wireless link to its own Type-C receiver and connects automatically, so there is no Bluetooth pairing.

Can I use it with a DSLR camera?

pTron lists only a Type-C receiver for the KWM-1 and no 3.5mm output, so it is designed for phones and tablets, not camera mic inputs.

Bottom line

The pTron KWM-1 makes the most sense as a low-fuss two-mic kit for USB-C phones, with wind muffs in the box and automatic connection. Its weak points are a short 5-hour rated battery, no charging case and a thin official spec sheet, along with some obvious listing errors. If two mics matter more to you than battery life and detailed specs, it is worth considering. Check the current price of the pTron KWM-1 on Amazon.in and confirm the box contents before ordering.
