The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G is still worth considering in 2026 if you want a sturdy mid-range Samsung with a metal frame, an IP67 rating, stereo speakers, a microSD slot and steady battery life. Its main weakness now is software runway: Samsung promised up to four OS upgrades for the A55, while the newer Galaxy A56 5G and Galaxy A57 5G come with promises of six.

This guide covers the exact model our Amazon.in link opens: the Galaxy A55 5G in Awesome Iceblue with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage (Samsung model code SM-A556ELBG). The A55 was also sold in other colours and in 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB versions, so check the title on the listing before you order.

Everything here is based on Samsung India’s official specifications, Samsung’s newsroom and published reviews, mainly GSMArena, checked on 17 October 2026. GadgetSoch has not tested the A55 hands-on.

Verdict at a glance

  • Good pick for: buyers who value build quality, water resistance, expandable storage and a well-rated battery over the newest chip
  • Look elsewhere if: you plan to keep your phone for five years or more, want fast charging or need the widest set of Samsung AI features
  • What still stands out: aluminium frame, Gorilla Glass Victus+, IP67, stereo speakers, microSD up to 1TB, OIS main camera, Knox Vault
  • What has aged: 25W charging with no charger in the box, a shorter update promise than the A56 and A57, and a heavier 213 g body

What has aged well

Build and water resistance

Samsung’s India launch release said the A55 was the first Galaxy A phone with a metal frame, and it uses Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and back. GSMArena listed the “sturdy build with Gorilla Glass Victus+, aluminum frame, IP67 rating” among its pros. IP67 is based on Samsung’s lab tests of submersion in up to 1 m of freshwater for 30 minutes. Samsung says it is not meant for beach or pool use and that the protection can wear down over time.

The trade-off is weight and thickness. At 213 g and 8.2 mm it is noticeably heavier than the newer Galaxy A57 5G, which Samsung lists at 179 g and 6.9 mm.

Display and speakers

The 6.6-inch Super AMOLED panel runs at up to 120Hz with a Full HD+ resolution. Samsung lists 1000 nits in High Brightness Mode, and GSMArena measured 1,010 nits in auto mode, which it called “pretty solid” for the price bracket. GSMArena did point out thick display bezels as a con. The Dolby-tuned stereo speakers earned a “Very Good” loudness rating in GSMArena’s test, with prominent bass and cleaner vocals than the Galaxy A54.

Steady performance under load

The Exynos 1480 is not a fast chip by 2026 standards, but GSMArena found it “quite competitive” at launch and was surprised that it held near-peak performance through both CPU and GPU stress tests without getting very hot. Samsung’s release mentions a cooling chamber more than 70% larger than before. For buyers who play games for longer sessions, consistent performance is often more useful than a higher peak score that drops after a few minutes.

Battery life

Samsung lists a 5000mAh typical battery and up to 28 hours of video playback. GSMArena gave the A55 an Active Use Score of 13:27h and called it “very good”. This is one area where an older phone does not feel old.

Where the A55 shows its age in 2026

  • Charging: the A55 supports 25W charging, and the charger is sold separately. GSMArena measured 29% in 15 minutes, 55% in 30 minutes and a full charge in about 1 hour 3 minutes with a 25W charger.
  • Update runway: it launched in March 2024 with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, and Samsung promised up to four OS upgrades and five years of security updates. SammyFans reported that One UI 7 (Android 15) reached Indian units in May 2025. The A56 and A57 are promised six OS upgrades.
  • AI features: Samsung’s launch release listed AI-assisted photo tools such as Object Eraser, Image Clipper and AI photo remaster. At review time GSMArena noted the A55 did not get the full Galaxy AI suite, which was limited to flagships. Newer A-series phones list more AI features.
  • Fingerprint reader and proximity sensor: GSMArena described fingerprint performance as unreliable and found the virtual proximity sensor not as good as a physical one.

Camera: what reviews say

The A55 uses a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide, a 5MP macro and a 32MP selfie camera. Samsung highlights Nightography, Super HDR video and 4K stabilisation that combines VDIS and OIS.

According to GSMArena, daylight photos from the main camera are detailed with natural-looking colours, and low-light shots are clean and sharp when Night mode activates. The 2x crop mode was a weak spot, with noticeable noise and fuzziness. The ultrawide was praised in daylight but produced noisy, soft photos at night. GSMArena called the selfies “excellent” and described the stabilised 4K video as “one of the best EIS we’ve seen in this price range”. For family photos, travel videos and social media, that is a dependable mix.

A55 vs A56 vs A57 vs A26: which Samsung should you pick?

This is the question most buyers of the A55 face in 2026. Here is how the alternatives differ, using Samsung’s own figures.

  • Samsung Galaxy A56 5G: launched in India in March 2025 with the Exynos 1580, a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen, 5000mAh battery, 45W charging, IP67 and six generations of OS upgrades with six years of security updates. Choose it over the A55 if faster charging and longer support matter.
  • Samsung Galaxy A57 5G: announced by Samsung in March 2026 with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED+ display, a 6.9 mm and 179 g body, IP68, a 5000mAh battery, Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and up to six OS upgrades. Samsung’s announcement does not name the chipset or confirm India sales details, so check availability.
  • Samsung Galaxy A26 5G: a more affordable option with the Exynos 1380, 120Hz Super AMOLED display, IP67, 25W charging and six OS upgrades. It has a plastic frame and a single speaker per GSMArena. Read our Samsung Galaxy A26 5G review for details.

In short, the A55 still has a sturdier build and better speakers than the A26, but the A56 and A57 have the longer update promise and faster charging. If you buy the A55, do it because the build, speakers and microSD slot matter to you.

Who the Galaxy A55 is for

It suits students and professionals who want a durable phone with a premium feel, people who store lots of photos and videos on a microSD card, and anyone who values IP67 water resistance and stereo speakers. Families moving from an older Galaxy will find One UI familiar.

It is not ideal if you keep phones for a long time, since its update window is shorter than newer models. Heavy gamers who want the strongest chip, people who want 45W or faster charging, and anyone who wants a light, slim phone should look at the alternatives above.

Galaxy A55 5G buying checklist
What to check before you buy the Galaxy A55 5G.
  • Confirm the variant: the link opens the Awesome Iceblue 8GB/256GB model. If the page shows another colour or storage option, select the one you want and check the product title again.
  • Buy a charger if needed: Samsung India says the 25W charger is sold separately. GSMArena reported a USB-C to USB-C cable, SIM tool and manuals in the box.
  • Hybrid slot: the second SIM slot doubles as the microSD slot, so using a memory card means using eSIM for a second number.
  • No headphone jack: you will need USB-C or Bluetooth earphones.
  • Check seller and warranty: look at the “Sold by” name and the warranty information on the listing, and keep the invoice for service at Samsung centres in India.
  • Update after setup: install the latest system update to get current security patches.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G worth buying in 2026?

It is worth it if build quality, IP67, stereo speakers and a microSD slot matter more to you than long-term updates and fast charging. If those two matter most, the Galaxy A56 5G or A57 5G is the better fit.

How many updates will the Galaxy A55 get?

Samsung promised up to four generations of OS upgrades and up to five years of security updates for the A55, which launched in India in March 2024 with Android 14.

Does the Galaxy A55 come with a charger?

No. Samsung India says the 25W charger is sold separately. The box includes a USB-C cable, according to GSMArena.

Is the Galaxy A55 waterproof?

It is water-resistant with an IP67 rating, based on lab tests in up to 1 m of freshwater for 30 minutes. Samsung advises against beach or pool use.

Does the Galaxy A55 support a memory card?

Yes. Samsung lists microSD support up to 1TB through a hybrid slot, so the card takes the place of a second physical SIM.

Final take

The Galaxy A55 5G remains a well-built, well-balanced mid-ranger with good battery life, stable performance, strong video and selfies, and features many rivals skip, like a microSD slot and stereo speakers. Its slower charging and shorter update promise are the reasons to compare it carefully with the A56 and A57 first.
