The boAt Rockerz Plus 550 is a budget over-ear Bluetooth headphone built around two numbers: 50mm dynamic drivers and a claimed battery life of up to 100 hours. It does not have active noise cancellation, so it suits buyers who want long battery life, a large over-ear fit and simple dual-device pairing more than buyers who need to shut out traffic or office noise.
In short, it makes sense as a long-lasting, low-fuss headphone for music, video and casual gaming at home or work. For quiet commutes, look at an ANC model. This is the newer Plus model, not the older boAt Rockerz 550 that many people still remember, and the two differ a lot on paper.
How this article was put together: it is based on boAt’s official product and support pages and on published retailer and spec listings, all checked on 17 October 2026. We have not tested the headphones hands-on, and at the time of writing we could not find an independent, measured review of this model, so nothing below is a claim about how it actually sounds or performs in daily use.
Quick verdict
- Best for: students, work-from-home users and long-commute listeners who want very long claimed battery life and an over-ear fit on a tight budget
- Skip if: you need active noise cancellation, an app with a custom EQ you can confirm before buying, or a lightweight on-ear design
- Key strengths (on paper): 50mm drivers, up to 100 hours claimed playback, dual pairing, 3.5mm AUX wired mode, USB Type-C charging, BEAST Mode with a claimed 40ms latency, a spare pair of customizable earcups in the box
- Key limitations: no ANC (physical noise isolation only), slow 2.5-hour charge with no fast-charge claim, no published IP rating, no codec details, and boAt’s own pages disagree on the Bluetooth version
The listing our link opens is the Black Psyche colour. Check the current price of the boAt Rockerz Plus 550 on Amazon.in.

Rockerz Plus 550 vs the old Rockerz 550: what changed
Search results often mix up the two models. According to boAt’s own product page for the original Rockerz 550, that headphone used the same 50mm driver size but claimed up to 20 hours of playback and used Bluetooth 5.0. The Rockerz Plus 550 keeps the 50mm driver size and moves to a much larger claimed battery figure (up to 100 hours), a newer Bluetooth version, USB Type-C charging, dual pairing and a low-latency BEAST Mode.
There is also a separate Rockerz Plus 550 ANC listed by Digit with 40dB hybrid ANC. That is a different product. The ASIN linked in this article is the non-ANC model with 50mm drivers and customizable earcups, so do not expect noise cancellation from it.
Design, comfort and the customizable earcups
The headline design feature is in the name of the Amazon listing: customizable earcups. boAt ships a spare pair of earcups in the box and says the silicone cover included matches the colour of the headphone you buy. It is essentially a cosmetic option for changing the look of the cups, and boAt does not explain the swap in detail, so read the user guide first.
The cushions are described as large over-ear cups, and Croma’s listing mentions memory foam and silicone cushioning and a foldable design. Over-ear cups that sit around the ear are usually easier to wear for long sessions than on-ear designs, at the cost of warmth in summer and bulk in a bag.
Weight is the one figure to think about. Croma lists the Rockerz Plus 550 at about 245 g. That is normal for budget over-ear headphones but well above the Sony WH-CH520, which Sony lists at about 147 g.
Sound: what 50mm drivers do and do not tell you
Larger drivers can move more air, which is why budget brands lead with driver size when talking about bass. boAt describes the tuning only as “boAt Signature Sound” and does not publish a frequency-response graph. Driver size alone does not tell you how clear the mids are, how controlled the bass is, or whether the treble is harsh.
boAt’s support page lists a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz, a total harmonic distortion figure of 1% or less at 1kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 90dB or more. boAt does not list supported Bluetooth codecs, so assume basic SBC-level streaming unless the retailer confirms otherwise.
Because no independent measured review was available when we checked, we cannot say how the Rockerz Plus 550 actually sounds. If sound is your priority, read verified buyer reviews and note the return window.
Battery life and charging
The 100-hour claim is the main selling point. boAt pairs it with an 800mAh battery and says the figure depends on volume and usage patterns, which means real-world runtime at higher volumes will be lower.
Charging is the weak spot. boAt lists about 2.5 hours for a full charge over USB Type-C and does not advertise a fast-charge feature, and Croma’s listing marks fast charging as “No”. boAt’s support page also recommends a 5V 2A charger. With such long claimed battery life this matters less, but a quick top-up before leaving home is not an option.
The included 3.5mm AUX cable is a useful backup: if the battery does run out, you can plug in and keep listening in wired mode, and it works with devices that lack Bluetooth.
Connectivity, controls and BEAST Mode
Dual pairing lets the headphones stay connected to two devices, for example a phone and a laptop, so you can take a call on the phone without manually re-pairing. boAt’s support page describes a manual set-up for the second device.
Controls are physical buttons: a multi-function button for play, pause, calls and voice assistant, volume buttons that double as track skip with a long press, and a separate quick-switch button for BEAST Mode. boAt claims 40ms latency in this mode, which is meant to reduce the delay between on-screen action and sound in games and videos. Treat it as a manufacturer claim, since real latency also depends on your device.
On the Bluetooth version, boAt’s product page and Croma say v5.4, while boAt’s support page says v5.3. In daily use the difference is small.
The Amazon listing title mentions app support. We could not find any mention of a companion app or app-based EQ on boAt’s own product page or support page for this model, so do not buy it expecting a custom equaliser until you have confirmed it on the listing or in the box.
Who should buy it and who should skip it

- Buy it if you want an over-ear headphone that you rarely need to charge
- Buy it if you switch between a phone and a laptop and want dual pairing
- Buy it if you like having a wired AUX fallback
- Skip it if you commute by metro or bus and want noise cancellation
- Skip it if you need fast charging or an IP rating for gym use
- Skip it if you want a light, compact headphone for all-day wear
Alternatives worth comparing
boAt Rockerz Plus 450 ANC: if noise cancellation matters, boAt’s own Rockerz Plus 450 ANC lists up to 40dB hybrid ANC, 40mm drivers, Bluetooth 6.0 and up to 80 hours of playback with ANC off (up to 57 hours with it on), according to boAt’s product page.
Noise Airwave Max 5: Noise’s official page lists adaptive hybrid ANC rated up to 50dB, 40mm drivers, up to 80 hours of playback at around 60% volume, Bluetooth 5.4, dual-device pairing and a weight of 251.4 g.
Sony WH-CH520: a lighter, smaller option from Sony with 30mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.2, a USB Type-C charge of about 3 hours and a weight of about 147 g, per Sony India’s spec page. Sony lists no wired input, so there is no AUX fallback. Our Sony WH-CH520 review covers it in more detail.
What to check before you order

- Model and variant: confirm the listing says Rockerz Plus 550 (not Rockerz 550 and not Rockerz Plus 550 ANC) and that the colour is the one you want. Our link opens the Black Psyche listing.
- Box contents: check that the spare customizable earcups, AUX cable and Type-C cable are included as boAt lists.
- Warranty: boAt’s FAQ says its Bluetooth headphones carry a 1-year warranty. boAt’s site advertises an extra 3 months only for purchases made on the boAt website or app, so an Amazon purchase should be treated as 12 months unless the seller states otherwise.
- Service: keep your invoice and serial number for boAt’s support portal.
- App claim: if app-based EQ matters, confirm it on the listing, since boAt’s pages do not mention it.
- Charger: boAt recommends a 5V 2A adapter. No charger is included in the box.
When you have checked those points, see the Black Psyche Rockerz Plus 550 on Amazon.in and confirm the exact variant on the listing before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Does the boAt Rockerz Plus 550 have ANC?
No. boAt’s product page states that the Rockerz Plus 550 does not feature active noise cancellation. It relies on physical noise isolation from its over-ear cushions. A separate Rockerz Plus 550 ANC model exists, but it is not the one linked here.
How long does the battery last?
boAt claims up to 100 hours of playback from an 800mAh battery, depending on volume and usage. A full charge takes about 2.5 hours over USB Type-C.
Does it support dual pairing and wired use?
Yes. boAt lists dual pairing for two devices at once, and an AUX audio cable is included for wired listening.
Is the Rockerz Plus 550 good for gaming?
It has a BEAST Mode that boAt says cuts latency to 40ms, which should help with casual mobile gaming and video. For competitive gaming, a wired headset is still the safer choice.
Is it water resistant?
boAt does not publish an IP rating for this model. Croma’s listing describes it as water resistant without giving a rating, so avoid using it in rain or for heavy workouts.
The bottom line
The boAt Rockerz Plus 550 is a straightforward budget over-ear headphone whose case rests on a very long claimed battery life, 50mm drivers, dual pairing and a wired fallback. Its gaps are just as clear: no ANC, slow charging, no IP rating and unclear app support. If those trade-offs suit how you listen, check the current price of the boAt Rockerz Plus 550 on Amazon.in.
